Wizards Streak Update: It’s Alive!
Groupon's favorite NBA squad lost another two road games over the weekend. They delivered a rare double-OT, double-digit defeat Friday to the Oklahoma City Thunder (still sounds more like a Roller Derby outfit than an NBA team to me). Maybe the presence of D.C. exports Kevin Durant and Jeff Green left the Wizards feeling enough at home out there in Dust Bowl territory to keep things close.
"That hurt. That hurt...," Wiz play by play man Dave Johnson muttered at the buzzer of the OK City loss.
Johnson probably felt a lot less pain during the mundane blowout loss in Memphis a night later.
The losses keep their road record perfect this season, as in 0-23.
Tonight, the Wizards look to extend the amazing streak to 24 in Dallas (31-15), and, assuming things go according to form, the skein will be at 25 — or just four games away from the longest away game drought in NBA history — after tomorrow night's game in New Orleans (31-18).
Coincidentally —or is it?— Dallas (in 1992-93) and New Orleans (in 1974-75, when the local franchise was called the Jazz) are the only two cities whose NBA squads had more losses to open a season than the late-model Washingtonians.
