What’s the Over/Under on “Redskins” Going Away?

Courtland Milloy wrote another column about changing the name of the local NFL team.

The Washington Post's comments section has attracted a lot of folks who'd rather never be reminded that "wounded knee" can have a meaning beyond Chris Cooley's recent surgery.

The poster going by "Eman8" offered a typical critique of Milloy's piece: "Another plea to change the name of the Redskins. How about an article titled "it's time to give up trying to change the name of the Redskins?"

Good for Milloy for not letting the issue die. The name's gonna change, after all.

On a related note, Sam Bradford is being called "the second best rookie quarterback of the past 25 years."

No question, the Redskins coulda used that redskin!

I can say that, right?

Another question is what they'd call them if they were renamed? Maybe just "Skins"?

Does Snyder still own the copyright to "Washington Warriors"? Use that. I don't care if they'll piss off their many, many rural fans (and a lot of the non-rural as well) with the switch, everyone is pissed off at the moment anyway, it's as good a time as any to break some more eggs.

Start rebuilding the image of the team with Warriors. Keep the exact same uniforms, colors, fonts - switch the chief image on the helmet back to the spear. Pull the band-aid off now. I've been a Redskins fan my entire life, had family season tickets for 45 years and I support the name change.

No. You shouldn't have Dave. Unnecessary and uncalled for.

No.AmJD: But but but..."redskin" is a term of endearment! a show of respect! a symbol of pride! i mean, just ask the commenters who are hot and bothered by courtland milloy's column that dares to hint that that word may not be fine to use in any conversation! they say folks love being called "redskin"! they're right, right?

    now i feel dirty...

so, how long before "Redskins" goes, No.AmJD?

    Not soon enough.

I should have blogged my experience at that game. I felt dirty going...

Maybe when Dan Snyder realizes how much money he can make selling all that new paraphanelia a new logo would bring.

If Col. Reb has to go, so does this name.
