Ali Mohammed’s Family Requests Autopsy Report

The family of Ali Ahmed Mohammed wants more details from the District government about how Mohammed died outside DC9 on Oct. 15. A source close to the family tells City Desk Mohammed's relatives have requested his autopsy report from the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner. OCME spokesperson Beverly Fields couldn't immediately confirm  the request, but says, "That would be routine. I wouldn't be surprised if they had."

The medical examiner reported last week that Mohammed's death was a homicide, with heart trouble, alcohol, physical exertion and restraint among the contributing factors.

Unlike neighboring jurisdictions, like Maryland, in D.C., autopsy reports are not public documents and can only be requested by the family of the deceased, "the Mayor, law enforcement agencies or officials, and Fatality Review Committees/Boards," according to the OCME website.

There's no word yet on whether Mohammed's family will share the report with the public once they've received it.

What the family needs to do is have a 2nd review of the cause of death by an independent source!

  • DCAV8R

They need to find out why the MPD held him for 45 minutes in the back of a patrol car.

  • Alex

DCAV8R, i'm pretty sure that confusion has long since been dispelled, it was confirmed he received CPR at the scene from the police until an ambulance arrived which took him to a nearby hospital and pronounced DOA.

I think the confusion arose from the earlier incident where the police took the suspect directly to the hospital

Alex...three folks who were out on the street told the same story. He was put in the car when the MPD arrived and remained there, in what every person on scene thought was really drunk "sleep", and after approx 40 mins they realized something was amiss. Nobody knows what made the officer move but all of a sudden action was taken.

But that is not the point...the rumor was there was this awful beating given to Mr. Mohammed but the autopsy has dispelled this. My bet is if/when the toxicology report is released he will be on khat/coke/meth/dust or some other stimulant that caused this whole mess. No matter what this is a tragedy but in my opinion the bigger tragedy is ruining the lives of 5 men who simply chased someone down and DID NOT beat him...or a cop who made the call that Mr. Mohammed was just shitfaced and let him sleep it off in the back of the car...neither is at fault but if there is a drug involved maybe finally someone will admit that maybe...just maybe Mr. Mohammed really did cause part of this awful tragedy?

    B%:
Come on dude, the problem with this case is there is too much mis-information. Both sides, whether they're pro-DC9 or anti-DC9 both have a lot of their facts wrong and are just giving out misinformation, and it's sad.

At 2:30am the the 911 call went out from one of the accused and the call ended when the police finally arrived

At 2:46am a fire unit was dispatched to the scene arriving at 2:51am, with an ambulance arriving at 2:53am

He was transported via ambulance to Howard University hospital arriving at 3:03am and at 3:15am he was pronounced dead.

You can hear the recording of the EMT transporting to Howard university hospital saying they had a trauma patient who was under cardiac arrest but could see no physical trauma (i.e a beating)

The confusion about being in police custody most likely came from the following:
Former D.C. Council candidate Bryan Weaver tweets that a friend who was at the club last night told him that the man was "alive and in MPD custody for at least 45 minutes."

However that was from the previous suspect, the same suspect that most likely caused the confusion with the blood on the street (the wrong picture that everyone published saying it was at the crime scene, when in fact it was at the wrong end of U St)

So please, please please please just stop it, all it does is it riles up people that will not be swayed by argument, let alone completely false ones.

The case has been mishandled by everyone top to bottom at the moment and it needs time for the truth to out, I for one do not believe they're guilty, but we shall see what happens.

My guess is that he was chased, tackled and either put in a choke hold or had several heavy people leaning on him to where he could not breath.

  • noodlez

JUST BECAUSE THE M.E. DETERMINED THAT HE DID NOT DIE FROM GETTING BEAT TO DEATH DOESNT MEAN THOSE BITCH MUTHA FUCKAS DIDNT POUNCE ON HIM AND CONTRIBUTE TO HIS DEATH.

EVEN POLICE GET ACCUSED OF CRIMES WHEN PHYSICALLY RESTRAINING SOMEONE THAT LEADS TO INJURY OR DEATH WHEN THEY ARE ARRESTING FOLK. SO WHY WOULD THESE UNTRAINED BAMAS, WHO CLAIMED THEY WERE MAKING A CITIZENS ARREST, NOT BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE FOR THE SAME THING. PLAYING ON FOLK INTELLIGENCE IS A WEAK ASS DEFENSE AND WHEN FOUND GUILTY THEY WILL GET THE WHOLE LOAD!

@mory YOU KNOW THAT IS EXACTLY WHAT HAPPENED.

    ALL YALL DC9ERS

  • justice

No matter what these 5 guys are responsible fo his death .it doesn't take 5 peolpe to restraint 1 drunk guy beside the kicking

  • dcav8r

justice: I don't think that at all. He died in police custody, not at the hands of the five employees. Why aren't the Ethiopians protesting the MPD? Why aren't they calling for the responding officers to be suspended without pay until an investigation into the matter is completed? And what kicking? There is no indication of trauma whatsoever on the ME report. If anyone was kicking, the drunk brick thrower was.

Funny it really seems to be about race but if my memory serves me the 5 are "all over the map"...correct? Alex re-read my comment...I agree too much misinformation including that there is this huge beatdown (or choke hold...of by the way would the death be by asphyxiation if that was the case? ) sorry but it ain't the case!

Politicians used this as their rally cry leading up to the election and this time it is all bull...how much longer do 5 men who made a mistake have to be accused of this mass beating? It DID NOT HAPPEN.

  • Bull%hit

And if one person can show me words like blunt force trauma or asphyxiation I will eat my words and shut up forever.

  • Alex

For Ali to have died in police custody he would actually have to BE in police custody, which never happened.

But still the ambulance drivers noted no physical trauma, the autopsy shows no physical trauma and he died of an arrhythmic defect (read: heartattack) under duress, which was the citizens rest which is legal within DC

Just because the coroner report shows as homicide keep in mid that's the medical determination for homicide and is not a criminal determination, it simply means that the actions of someone else contributed to a death

And "noodlez" with phrases such as "BITCH MUTHA FUCKAS", I don't think you're really in any position to comment on intelligence

Anyway, it's all irrelevant, everyone is convinced one way or another and if/when it goes to trial people will be just as angry when they are found innocent, which is the crux of this? You've all presumed them guilty by reading articles, which isn't how the American justice system works
