Al Koken Has a New Name for Old Boss’s Media Operation

kokenYesterday, during an interview on WFJK-FM, guest Al Koken urged listeners to stick with that station if it wanted to hear any Washington Capitals coverage, and to not bother tuning in to "Dan-Jazeera."

Koken was referring to WJFK's rival sportstalker in this market, Dan Snyder's WTEM-AM.

Koken was a longtime host and the resident hockey guy at WTEM. His run there ended last year when Snyder bought the station and, in his first wave of personnel moves, fired Koken. From the sound of things, Koken's still bruised about getting cut by Snyder.

Bitterness aside, "Dan-Jazeera"'s dang funny.

And I can't believe it's almost hockey season.

As Coach Thompson would say ----- Here comes The Judge.

It would have been better to put Koken's comments in context. WJFK was doing a remote at Kettler while the Caps prospects were playing against the Flyers. He was a guest on Lavar and Duke's show when he made those remarks.

He mocked WTEM by saying that he didn't see them around.

I would doubt that WTEM even knew that the Capitals had opened camp. In fact that turd Czaben mocked his producer for reading the final score of the scrimmage on the half hour break about 5pm.

WJFK would cover the Redskins as much if they had the access that 980 has. Al, B-Mitch, and Coach Thompson are monotone, boring, and frankly do not add anything entertaining on radio.

And who care about the scrimmage score? It will be nice to have 2 sportstalk (soon 3) stations in town with different emphasis and personalities. I look forward tok seeing Al on Comcast covering Ovi and company.

+1 -- Isn't comparing a media outlet to Al Jazeera a huge complement? But I don't think that is what is meant here....
