A Glenn Beck Fan’s Guide to Washington, D.C.

The District is bracing for yet another gathering of Tea Party activists, seemingly furious about the very existence of the federal government and complaining about "taxation without representation." (Though, honestly, we in D.C. know from taxation without representation, and none of these grouches from states with two senators and voting House members really impress City Paper much for disenfranchisement.) On Saturday, Glenn Beck will do his best Martin Luther King, Jr., impression, addressing a rally at the Lincoln Memorial on the anniversary of King's 1963 March on Washington. Beck has a dream, too, you know. And it doesn't necessarily involve a Christmas sweater.

But Washingtonians aren't the only ones preparing for the invasion: The Tea Partiers are girding their loins for their imminent arrival in the District. A visitor's guide posted on a Maine Tea Party group's website has gotten some attention for advising the anti-government activists avoid Metro's Green and Yellow lines—a warning that's "even more important at night"—and stick to certain areas of the city for safety reasons if on foot, in a cab or a bus:

Bethesda, Arlington (preferably north Arlington), Crystal City, Falls Church, Annandale, or Alexandria, or in DC only in northwest DC west (i.e. larger street numbers) of 14th or 16th streets, or if on Capitol Hill only in SE Capitol Hill (zip 20003) between 1st and 8th Streets, not farther out than 8th (e.g. 9th, 10th etc). (Or stay on the Mall and at the various monuments.)

It seems unlikely many Tea Party activists will take this advice completely literally; a lot of them have been showing up here pretty often since President Obama took office, anyway, to scream about how unfair it is that the government will soon be helping people without health insurance get coverage, among other perfidies, so they may have learned their way around town by now.

Which is a good thing—because this visitor's guide would put quite a few sights off-limits. Among them:

  • The National Archives, where—thanks, no doubt, to a socialist plot—the beloved Constitution now resides, best reachable by public transit via the Green or Yellow line;
  • Ur-Republican Abraham Lincoln's cottage on the grounds of the Old Soldier's Home, located dangerously northeast of downtown, in Petworth along North Capitol Street;
  • The Washington Times (if it's still publishing by the weekend), whose op/ed page unflaggingly supports Tea Party goals from its home off New York Avenue in Northeast;
  • Baseball at Nationals Park, on the Green line—fortunately, both "mom" and "apple pie" stick to safer transit options;
  • Target, in Columbia Heights, which faces a MoveOn.org-organized boycott over its political contributions to a business group that's given money to opponents of gay marriage in Minnesota;
  • The street named after Tea Party heroine Sarah Palin's turf, Alaska Avenue NW, which runs northeast from 16th Street NW to Georgia Avenue NW.

Where else might Tea Party types want to go, or not go, this weekend? Leave your suggestions in the comments. And if you spot a Beck acolyte on any Metro line this weekend, remember—their farecard only covers 66 percent of the cost of their ride. The rest? Paid for by the government!

My house, on a leafy, quiet, tree-lined street in DC's Shaw neighborhood, where such despicable symbols of government overreach as a public library are located. Also, any establishments in the U Street Corridor, particularly those serving soul food and other favorites of lower-income, minority populations. Finally, let's not forget the tourist-unfriendly Chinatown neighborhood, where the chain restaurants, bowling alleys, movie theaters, and sports venue would not be interesting to Constitution humpers.

  2. #2

Definitely stay away from Columbia Heights (on the yellow and green lines). Otherwise you might run into me and I'm gonna tell you miserable cranky old farts (aka Teabaggers) to get a job. After all, you can't suck off the Federal government's teet forever - you burned through the money you contributed into Social Security and Medicare years ago and now you are dipping into MY money, you f***ing deadbeats.

    "(Dupont Circle, gay area)"

Damn, someone spoiled the surprise. They also think Silver Spring is unsafe? Lordy...

  4. #4

My only hope would be that they have scared these freaks out of coming and they stay home.

  5. #5

I hate the tea bag party, but seriously, this is some pretty good advice to anyone coming to DC. I think they should print these instructions up and post them in every DC Metro Station. Sorry DC, but facts are facts. Anyone coming to visit DC should stay in NW DC West of 16th Street, on the Mall, Chinatown-Gallery Place, Downtown DC in the daytime, or in the Capital Hill section, and only there within a few blocks of the Hawk and Dove. If they have some street smarts, U Street is ok as well.

I am afraid DC has some issues in the other neighborhoods.

  6. #6

Teabaggers: stick to the Mall. Have your rally and go home. We don't like you. <3 DC.

  7. #7

This is actually pretty good. Thank you! Why would we want to go to N.E. or S.E. anyway when all the action is downtown? Well, we're going to have to warm up to other areas as we continue to visit DC and exercise our right to express. So my soon to be friendly liberal socialist neighbors, we will respect you and just ask you do the same.

  8. #8

Sadly, the teabaggers would have other potential visitors stay away from the places in the D.C. area where they'd be at greatest chance to see some culture, such as Silver Spring and Dupont Circle. Aside from the numerous sites for homage to old white men, there isn't much that the teabaggers would like in the "recommended" areas of D.C. anyway (the clubs, hip restaurants, and loud music/sports venues). Well, I take that back. There is a Fudruckers at Chinatown and an Eddie Bauer in Chrystal City...sounds like a swell time, doesn't it Mr. Cleaver?

D.C. isn't nearly as dangerous as the media makes it out to be. As long as you don't make yourself a target there's little to worry about in -most- areas. Teabaggers seem to have difficulty with that loud and obnoxious part though, to say the least.

  9. #9

I think that we residents of DC should post helpful signs. You know something along the lines of "Tea Party Approved Neighborhood" or useful warnings "Unsafe, beware the gays" or "Scary minority neighborhood" or just "Warning, differing views ahead, cover your ears".

Signs should be easily understood, not confusing. The 'safe' streets should be clearly marked with overly patriotic pictures extolling the value of the 2nd amendment. Bad neighborhoods should clearly show what they see as stereotypical non-bagger views. You know, the hammer and sickle, child killing doctors that us obviously socialist creatons worship

  10. #10

The Mall. I'll be there ready to react to the violence of bigotry with violence from my right and left fists.

So I'm intolerant of intolerance...that's a good thing.

  11. #11

Tea Partiers would definitely want to stay away from Takoma/Takoma Park. They'd run away screaming from the number of white people in dreads and other hippies.

Last april was stuck on a metro train with about 50 tea partier so I used that opportunity to have a loud discussion with my friend about John Stewart's impersonation of Glen Beck.

  12. Here's your welcome teabag!
    #12

    (Dupont Circle gay area)

Seems to be a useful piece of advice for the Homocon teabaggers who may be searching for some local-style teabagging.

You know, guys with wide stances, fondness of Capitol pages, and that sort of conservative Republicanism. Often guys away from home and looking on the lowdown for love.

  13. #13

It is truely amazing how intolerant and hypercritical liberals are and it shows in some of these comments! It's called freedom of speech, it's part of our society, get use to it!

  14. #14

    Rick-
You can say whatever you like, but if you're clearly wrong, you get called out. There's no constitutional protection from being called an idiot. These instructions would have been helpful in 1993. Now, they're just wrong.

Chinatown or U Street are no good but Annandale and all of Alexandria and Silver Spring are? And the Yellow Line is unsafe? Whatever...

  15. #15

As Mason said, Rick, no one has told them to shut up. They can talk, we can talk back. And we're not even so much talking about their vapid regurgitation of complete lies here, but the "useful" information that has been given to them about visiting DC, which serves to lay completely bare their racism and homophobia.

  16. #16

Rick: Not intolerant, we're just laughing at your ignorance.

  17. #17

Rick you forgot to use the word "activist" when complaining about liberals, please remember your talking points!

    <3 , SteeleFan#1

  18. #18

Well I can see that a bunch of people who have commented here must of been sleeping during American History or Civic Class! Maybe half of you need to go down to the National Arcives and read those old documents called the Constitution and Bill of Rights! It seems that liberals like to wrap themselves in it when touting their narrow views, but forget it when someone has a different opinion, that's HYPOCRICY!

  19. #19

I dunno, Rick. We'd have to take the Yellow line to get there. According to this guide, that's kinda dangerous, no?

Fortunately for us, the Bill of Rights has been posted online. Amendment I states: "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances."

I can call you an idiot if you are, and you can keep talking to prove my point.

  20. #20

um...Rick? two quick points: First, it's actually spelled "HYPOCRISY". I guess while some of us were sleeping during American History or "Civic" Class, others of us were sleeping through Spelling and Grammar class.

Second, I won't be lectured to about intolerance and being "hypercritical" by someone who supports a movement that regularly holds up signs showing President Obama as Adolph Hitler or an African Native complete with a grass skirt and a bone in his nose.

Actually you Teabaggers have the right to spew all the lies and garbage you want to. No one is preventing that or arguing against it. Freedom of Speech also means we have the right to disagree and make fun of you. I just wonder: where were all you "fiscal conservatives" when George W. Bush and his Republican cronies in the Congress were bankrupting this country with a made-up war in Iraq and tax cuts for the super-rich?

Oh, and in my earlier post about the hypocritical Teabaggers on Social Security and Medicare who bitch about the "evil" Federal government, I forgot to mention the deadbeat Teabaggers who are on long-term unemployment or disability. They piss me off too.

  21. #21

Rick, nobody here is saying that Beck and Co. shouldn't be permitted to do whatever it is they want to do. We're using the First Amendment the exact same way y'all do - to call out others on their behavior. True, our side has the advantage of facts, but there's still no state action involved.

If you want HYPOCRICY, though, look to those people shouting "taxation without representation" while coming to the district, which, unless your name is Jack Kemp, republicans have been refusing to allow representation to. Or claiming to be fighting for "freedom" (read: no taxes) while actively curtailing actual civil rights and running up a massive deficit. Or fighting to strike down the District's gun laws and then drawing out a map of which areas are white and which aren't for visitor's "safety" after that battle was won.

I'm not about to claim that the right has a monopoly on HIPOCRICY, but they're certainly fighting hard for it.

  22. #22

Well it looks like I struck a never amoung you nifty HYPOCRITE set!

  23. #23

Before you all give yourself hysterics, please consider that many Beck even attendees are "regular Americans" from small towns. I'm a city girl myself (New York, London UK, Chicago, Cleveland, and currently San Diego) and I have seen firsthand the shell-shock ordinarily courageous and intelligent smalltowners experience on their first visit to a metropolis; I quickly learned to literally never leave my small-town guests alone for even one minute or they would get themselves into all sorts of trouble!

Think of it like swimming on an unfamiliar ocean beach. If you're a strong swimmer who understands the vagaries of weather and tides, you'll probably exercise enough "common sense" to stay safe. If, however, your skills and experience are limited to the occasional dog-paddle at the Y, IT'S ONLY REASONABLE to stay in the shallows on beaches with posted lifeguards!

It is unconscionable to condemn a Visitor's Guide clearly meant for metro-unskilled small-towners as racist, classist, or any other "-ist." Would you rather these folks trampled all unwitting into neighborhoods where they DO NOT know "the rules of the road," with potentially disastrous consequences for both themselves and the residents? GROW UP, people! This is about keeping EVERYBODY safe.

  24. #24

I can't imagine why anyone would want to share safety tips to travelers entering unfamiliar territory. After all, when you think "safe", you think "DC". What is the big deal? I've seen professional travel sites that warn tourists not to wander around Baltimore and to stay in the harbor area.
Leave them alone and let them do their thing.

    WAGGING THE DOG

As the Obama regime leads us into a great depression, its flaks have been told to change the topic anyway they can, to wag the dog.

For the past two days, I have been attacked on line and on TV as a racist for writing a guide for tea partiers coming to this week's Glenn Beck rally (or other marches on DC) at my heretofore almost unknown blog "Tea Parties -- One Lump or Two?" (www.teapartiers.blogspot.com). I am a racist because I advised people to avoid whole sections of our collapsing and dangerous subway system (Metro) unless they took a local like me with them.

What's really funny is the complete journalistic incompetence this has shown. It's like I (and my linked Maine tea partier blogger Andrew Ian Dodge) set a booby trap for MSNBC and the Leftover blogosphere. I have long been of the opinion, even before the Journ0Lists story broke, that other than the Drudge Report and the National Enquirer, many journalists are nothing more than flaks for the political class, covering up their failed stimulus programs, and their exercise of seignorial rights to interns, masseurs, and campaign staffers. This week confirms that for me.

First the Huffington Post and Rachel Maddow erroneously inform everyone that my guide was
written by someone in deepest, whitest rural Maine, when I have lived in DC since 1980 (and before that lived for years in Obama's old south side neighborhood in Chicago).

Then Maddow comes up with a map of where I told tourists where it would be safe to go on their own, that consist of a teeny area of the Mall, downtown, and West End. When I clearly said all of the red line in Montgomery County and NW DC and everything west of 14th Street (which includes the historically African American neighborhoods of Crestwood, Shepherd's Park, Colonial Village, and 16th Street Heights). One wonders how many Oxford dons one has to blow to get a PhD when one cannot read?

(In Maddow's defense I believe she was depending on the accuracy of blogs called "Little Green Footballs" by some coward named Charles Johnson, who has blocked my ability to reply to his innaccuracies on his blog, and something called DCist.com produced by people in Manhattan who claim to know about DC, even though they don't know any of the geography I just mentioned above.)

Then the Leftover lemmings from the Huffington Post on called me a bigot who was telling people to avoid gays and racial minorities. When I am openly gay and have dated someone from every race and ethnic group on earth, with the exception of Chechnyans, Aleuts, and Eskimos (and I am currently single so if you are reasonably attractive, a good conversationalist, and are in those groups feel free to give a call).

Next a purportedly award winning journalist named Andrea Stone at AOLNews wrote a (slightly more balanced) piece wherein she claims to have tried to reach me repeatedly. No calls, no messages, no emails from her. When I check, just out of curiosity, Andrea and I have 8 FaceBook friends in common. And my phone number is listed. The leftoid Talking Points Memo (which wrote its own Journ-0-Lisp reproduction of the HuffPo stock piece), WMAL radio, David Weigel from Slate and local WUSA Channel 9 and a local FOX affiliates all managed to call my listed number. Woodward and Bernstein move over -- Andrea Stone is on the beat!

Then MSNBC, which is infamous for having NO African American hosts or co-hosts, employs mush mouthed hack Eugene Robinson on the Maddow show, and that more honest and respectable African American guy who appears on the McLaughlin Group (his name escapes me) to chortle on about how my guide would prevent visiting tea partiers from eating at Ben's Chili Bowl during their 36 hours here (didn't Michelle Obama say not to eat that stuff?) at 13th and U Streets. Apparently the almost all white MSNBC network needed black faces to give them some street cred on DC neighborhoods. Now we know that Chris Matthews travels far and wide to find lesbians to molest, sometimes all the way to Burbank, but I suspect I have been out dining and dancing in the New U way more than he has -- and more than Robinson or the other guy. And, as a pseudo-journalists and pretend DC citizens, they seem unaware that the New U clubs had stabbings and shootings that led openly gay left-liberal Democratic city council member Jim Graham to consider shutting them down (http://dcist.com/2007/06/29/another_shootin.php). I guess Jim Graham has been a Manchurian candidate all this time, a secret raving right wing member of the tea party. Welcome aboard Jim! Cosmos at 5:00 at JR's? So it is moral and thoughtful to tell tourists to go to this neighborhood at night and to smear me as a racist for telling them not to do so. Right Chris! It seems that that tingling synapse in your leg is the only part of your central nervous system that is still alive.

What this whole megillah shows us about the Leftover statists is what we knew from the first time high school drop out Janeane Garofalo pronounced on the psychology of tea partiers: the left is intellectually bankrupt. Obama is flailing -- at this point his best strategy would be to campaign FOR GOP candidates. Boxer, Reid et al will soon have to become lobbyists or beg Obama for ambassadorships to support their tax predator ruling elite lifestyles. All the Keynesian hogwash their PR flaks spew is rejected by a growing majority of voters (even if in their own little caves at HuffPo and Salon the inmates think "Mises" is the plural of "mice"). They have nothing left but seizing on anything they can and scream racism. The one tool in their box, and it no longer works. They have already lost this election. What new form of scapegoating and demonization will the invent for the next one?

  26. #26

Wow it really is clear that some white Democratic journalists have never been in black neighborhoods in DC!

Alaska Avenue is in NW and runs from 16th street NW to Georgia Avenue NW. Not NE.

It is in one of those historically black neighborhoods (Crestwood, Shepherd's Park, 16th Street Heights, and Colonial Village) that fall in the "safe zone" west of the 14th Street NW rule of thumb I gave to visitors who don't know where they are.

I understand why MSNBC with all white hosts and Arianna "living in Santa Barbara with my gay millionaire ex husband's money and green card" Huffington don't know that.

Don't you have any people at City Paper who have ever been in any African American neighborhoods?

Maybe the Madcow Show will hire you to draw their maps?

  27. #27

Do you get paid to write this drivel? Or, are you just a blogger who can't find anything better to write about? You certainly don't qualify as a journalist.

  28. #28

No I just enjoy popping the heads of little ticks like you Jonnie. Perhaps even a little tick employed by the feds to leech on the poor tax serfs protesting your vampirism.

I do it for free as a public service.

Did you actually have any points? Or are you just another air headed 'crat?

  29. #29

Bruce Majors-TELL YOUR CRACKER ASS FRIENDS TO STAY THE HELL OUT OF D.C.

    BLACK POWER!!

  30. #30

    Bruce --

This doesn't say Alaska Avenue is in Northeast; it says it runs northeast from 16th Street to Georgia Avenue. (I do say "Alaska Avenue NW," after all, and I don't capitalize northeast, in an attempt to differentiate the direction from the quadrant.) Besides, you advise people to stay west of 16th Street, not just west of 14th Street. And at any rate, Alaska continues east of 14th Street. But I'll clarify the language from "runs from 16th Street northeast to Georgia Avenue," and instead make it "runs northeast from 16th Street to Georgia Avenue."

I live in Petworth, east of Georgia Avenue, so I'm very familiar with Crestwood and 16th Street Heights. Up to you whether you think that means I've ever been in any African American neighborhoods.

  31. #31

Actually, keeping them away from SE DC will keep them at arms length from the all- or mostly black areas of DC.

Probably pretty wise given that I have never seen a person of color at a Tea Party rally, and especially considering "that word" Sarah Palin's audiences like to yell out.

The Tea Party -- it's a "White People Thang".

  32. #32

According to Mike Madden: "Alas, activists who follow this tip would miss the chance to visit the National Archives, where THEIR "beloved Constitution now resides."

I guess the "beloved Constitution" doesn't belong to him.

  33. #33

Perhaps you should try attending a tea party rally and check out how many people of color there before you call it a "White People Thang".

  34. #34

I'm sorry, Anne Gorsuch, but that's not what that line says. Try reading closely:

"The National Archives, where—thanks, no doubt, to a socialist plot—the beloved Constitution now resides, best reachable by public transit via the Green or Yellow line..."

  35. #35

D.C. is a national embarrassment! Marion Barry elected as mayor after corruption and cocaine charges, the crime rate in the city with the highest LEO/security/bodygaurd ratio per capita anywhere in the country. We should all hang our heads in deep shame. I have a daughter who lives and works in D.C. and just to visit her is a chore (parking, traffic, bleeding heart liberals, etc) I also have a son is in area law enforcement and i worry more about him being killed in the line of duty than when he served in Desert Storm. ( Our nations capital also has one of the highest murder rates in the country {along with some of the most restrictive weapons control laws in the country}) I think Beck should hold his rallies in Philadelphia or Boston, imagine the impact that would have.

  36. #36

I can't believe how biased the mainstream media is!Forget any objectivity, as the screaming liberal press scold's every move that those of us that are not fooled by Obama make! I'm going this weekend, and I'm not a conservative! This Democrat want's his country back! I'm sick of the lies (from both Republicans and Democrats), and wish to promote a return to decent government, fiscal responsibility, free market economy, and national defense! I don't want to be a socialist, turning over my rights as a citizen for some kind of cradle to grave left wing utopia, deprived of my freedom! I can hang out with Beck, although I realize he is not a saint! I don't like Palin for any national office, but love to listen to her provoke the lefty wingers, especially our rapidly sinking "Chosen one" President! We, the people...will not be denied!

  37. #37

Gee, Tom, why did your son and daughter leave whatever exurban hell-hole you raised them in? And your pig of a son is a bigger menace to civilians than civilians are to him.
Stay the hell out if you hate it so much.

  38. #38

Arlington National Cemetery, Section 60. No question.

  39. #39

Wait a minute. When did the constitution become optional? I thought it belonged to all Americans. Mike, maybe you ought to attend this event and remember why it is you have the freedom to do what you do.

  40. #40

    Wow...bias much?

This author claims to be from DC, but clearly doesn't know that the National Archives are a one-block walk from L'Enfant Plaza (orange and blue lines) and Gallery Place/Chinatown (Red line), and less than two blocks from the Federal Center SW, Smithsonian, and Federal Triangle stops (orange and blue), and from Judiciary Square (red line). Some people will stoop to any level to rain on the parade of those with whom they disagree.

Why is the Washington City Paper free, again?

  41. #41

"their" beloved constitution - isn't it YOUR constitution too Mike!

  42. #42

It is your constitution too Mike - not just the Tea Party people.

  43. #43

Ted D obviously isnt from the DC area. His knowledge of the Metro is horrible.

I don't really care about this rally, but I would appreciate it if those visiting stayed out of Arlington (preferably North Arlington). You are just going to bother us.

  44. #44

Dude, the National Archives are two blocks east of the Federal Triangle station. Not exactly off limits, is it?

Oh, nice editing to get rid of the snarky "your beloved Constitution" comment.

Wow, Little Nemo. What color is the sky in your universe?

  45. #45

'SarahMC', when you get your ass raped and beaten and as you are lying there with a load of cum from some stranger inside of you, with a broken jaw think about what you said about 'Tom Eggers' brave son, who has done more for his country and fellow man then your twisted miserable worthless ass ever did!

  46. #46

Just to be clear: The article above has not been edited. The words "their beloved constitution" or "your beloved constitution" never appeared in the article.

  47. #47

After Glenn Beck packs up and goes back to Fox news-please take time to cover the arrival of – Frank Cavaluzzi, also known as the Standing Cyclist, left the 5th Street Marina/Great Allegheny Passage area on Wednesday August 25th in a pursuit of bringing awareness to the deadly disease known as Mesothelioma. We have House Resolution 771 ready for the President to sign-Making Sept 26th Mesothelioma Awareness Day - I have mesothelioma- only know cause asbestos which is not Banned in the USA. I will be in DC monday and tuesday to finish the ride with Frank. 911 rescue workers, firefighter and citizens and heros in Mahattan all exposure to asbestos. Thousands will die in the next 30 years

  48. #48

This conversation is dumb. Teabaggers are racists, and everyone knows it. Let them come gawk at the paved roads for a couple of days. They'll be headed home soon enough. Then we can restore honor to our city and take it back.

  49. #49

Ugh, this is getting old. Let them have their protest at the steps of a monument to someone who would be appaled to see what his party has become. Let them claim that 100k is a lot of people on the mall (it's not). I am really tired of listening to the same right-wing talking points. Please take it off the main page, the amount of attention this who group gets is out of proportion to any actual influence or real numbers they have.

If Glenn Beck wants to help a charity that only gets 5mil a year in donations, do something meaningful like pledge to match it dollar for dollar. It's not like he doesn't have it. If he wants to pretend to be an influence, let us vote for him like Al Franken. Until then, it's a movement with a loudspeaker that's drowning out reasonable conversation

  50. #50

Interesting that Bruce Majors, a realtor who has been acive in the GAY community, is posting this rubbish. I guess even Gay people have come under the spell of Palin and Beck. Sad.

  51. #51

'Mike' is an asshole and everyone knows it! Let's restore honor back to the city that re-elects a crack addict and criminal as mayor and presently a city council member and can not account for millions of tax payers money! WOW that a lot to be proud of, how pathetic!

  52. #52

Oh by the way, 'MistrKnuckle' gay's can't seem to think for themselves when it comes to democrats and the current coward we have as President, who can repeal, 'Don't Ask Don't Tell', with an executive order! So go ahead and line-up with you nose up the President's ass like every mindless queen and just remember to say over and over again, democrats are good, Republicans are bad, democrats are good Republicans are bad! You all would make perfect Borg Drones!

  53. #53

The Tea Party Movement is the product of special interests taking advantage of ignorant, impressionable people. Tea Party folks are being roused in the hope of creating serious social conflict, and to create a psychology of panic among americans (through overblown media coverage). Special interests roused groups like this in Chile and Argentina in similar times of economic crisis. Look at where their rouses led...dictatorships. Right now the Tea Party Idiots are merely that, a cacophonous amalgamation of rants from seriously misled people. But if we don't actively fight their ignorance and trump their voice, they may eventually become a beacon for the meek and weak.

  54. #54

and a prelude to serious conflict.

  55. #55

Can the Tea-tards come to the District every weekend? I think this article plus a lot of the not-stupid comments were helpful. They will probably also benefit from previous City Paper articles, like the Black Man's Guide to Georgetown. @NY you must live in Georgetown - please don't discuss the rest of the city which you've clearly never traveled to. And prefacing your comment with "I hate the tea bag party" doesn't defend you as well as you think.

  56. #56

This is so disturbing. Beck, Palin, Limbaugh, etc
do not speak for me at all.
They are very disturbed people and they all need
    serious help.

  57. #57

Okay, teabaggers, let's call this for what it is. A bunch of racist, mid-western homophobes who've never left the farm. Leave your pigs at home. (And stay out of Georgetown at night--it can be rather unsafe on the dimly lit streets.)

  58. #58

I'll tell you what's disturbing is no one on here is saying anything about the scam that Al Sharpton pull in 1989 with Tawana Brawley and other shake-downs he has done since and this clown lead the other march today! MLK is rolling in his grave right now!

  59. #59

What is so disturbing is Palin quit her job now she thinks
she is still Govenor. Martin Luther King would be so
disturbed by what went on today where he gave his speech.
These people are all NUTS! The clowns got loose again.
Only the Tea Baggers and Nut Jobs would believe any of

Just doesn't make any sense. Xenophobia is killing this country, not liberalism. I live off of the Naylor Road station in SE and take Metro every day, and I've never had a problem or complaint as a young white male in the supposed "danger area".

Glenn Beck’s “Restoring Honor” rally sought to bring God back into the public discourse. While the claim throughout was plurality and a non-denominational stance on God, it was clear that this only really applied under the umbrella of Christianity and was mostly just required ear-candy for the sprinkling of non-Christian supporters in the crowd.

Think about Glenn Beck's, Sarah Palin's and the tea-baggers' joint message: they don't want uninsured Americans to have health insurance. My question is who's paying for Trig Palin's health insurance? If you agree with Beck, Palin and the tea-baggers, when you go to the hospital are you prepared to pay the bill? Will you sign over the deed to your house for payment?

What everybody doesn't seem to realize is that most of this country is under the influence of the Nazis. The same people that killed and tortured innocent people during WWII. They want to destroy education?!- sound familiar! They want the rich elite to have total control financially and they want to start WWIII. They don't care about Unemployment, the Environment, Illegal Immigration, Social Security, Medicare, Utility Bills, Mortgages or how many innocent people died in Iraq . You bastards had better wake up because if Dick and Bush get back into office we may not be willing to try to save you dumb stupid idiots-next time!

the song of the oppressed , "taxed without representation" , most of congress represents foreign interests and not the people of the United States
both the Republicans and the Democrats are owned buy a foreign "international" governing committee.

    the new battle song is:

    what did Delaware Boys ?

    she wares a brand-new TEA PARTY !
    she wares a brand-new TEA PARTY !
    she wares a brand-new TEA PARTY !
    that's what Delaware's !
