IN CASE YOU MISSED IT:

Good morning sweet readers! LL's power went out yesterday afternoon and still hasn't come back on. That's why you're getting this abridged e-mail late, if you're getting it at all. Complaints? Call Pepco or Mother Nature, depending on your disposition. The news:

Feisty Ward 7 Forum: LL wrote a quick recap of the Ward 7 mayoral straw poll Saturday, where D.C. Council Chairman Vincent Gray easily beat Mayor Adrian Fenty. The Post's Nikita Stewart has more, including:  "Fenty supporters included a mix of paid workers, volunteers and construction laborers. Like fans of the visiting team at a basketball game, they sat together in the bleachers in the gymnasium of Fort Davis Recreation Center."

AFTER THE JUMP: Fired teacher; Affordable Housing; Streetcars...

Can 'Em: The Post editorial board and The Examiner's Jonetta Rose Barras both applaud schools Chancellor Michelle Rhee for last week's firing of 241 DCPS teachers. Post: "No joy can be taken in knowing the hardship caused to individuals who likely are nice people and good neighbors. But if there is outrage to be felt, it should be directed at a system that has enabled, even rewarded, poor teachers." Barras: "Workers are being held to an appropriate standard. When they don't meet it, they are being led to the door with boxes and empty wallets. That's a good thing. Let's shout hallelujah!"

Affordable Housing Fail: "Nearly a year after the D.C. government put a contentious affordable housing provision into place, the policy has not created any new affordable homes," reports Jonathan O'Connell at the Post's business thingy.

Did Nikita "I love Vince" Stewart also report that Gray paid for his gotv peeps with $ from felon donors? Hey Alan, keep citing Fox (I mean Nikita). Fair and balanced.
