Will Mr. Gandhi's approval ultimately sway any election outcomes in the District? Especially when the mayoral campaign in contentious and tight. That's the problem. It must be tough being a Republican in the District. Has the D.C. GOP picked a mayoral candidate that will lose yet?

Even if Gandhi is a bad candidate, why shouldn't his nomination be voted on? If he's qualified, vote yes. If not, vote no. If he's voted down, let Fenty nominate someone new.

i must concur about the Statehood Party--some members of which are experts in multi-party & run off elections, and some are election-law attorneys.

These appointments are crony gifts. One can't curry much favor from Greens.

One would hope that Mital Gandhi is a RINO. But I think the national party puts all DC Republicans into that category.

Can the mayor nominate people who are registered as independents to this position?

The Home Rule Charter states that the seat must go to a minority party . The last time I checked , DC has others such as the STATEHOOD GREEN PARTY . The "National Paty Of N' should not have a seat at the table when they have fought againstDC Voting Rights !

Mital Gandhi has not been approved not because he's a Republican, but because he's a bad candidate (sorry dude, getting elected to an ANC position does not make you a qualified candidate, nor does observing one international election).

Frankly the same can be said for Togo West.

Here's a thought..and I know this is radical for the District, but why don't we appoint people to a board who are experts in the field in which they will be serving. This town is filled with experts, including elections experts (and again Mital you are not one).
