I was out of town so forgive me for mentioning this old news. On Saturday, WaPo analyzed Mayor Adrian Fenty’s small-time jobs plan through the eyes of Councilmember Mary Cheh. WaPo describes the mayor’s plan, which was announced last week, this way:

“The mayor committed to partnering with the 50-church Washington Interfaith Network (WIN) to create up to 700 jobs over four years by weatherizing 2,000 to 4,000 houses in Wards 5, 6, 7 and 8. In a statement, WIN said it planned to use $10 million to $20 million annually from the Sustainable Energy Trust Fund to pay workers for weatherizing the homes of low-income residents for free. In a separate statement, Fenty (D) pledged to fund the “District of Columbia Weatherization and Residential Retrofit Goals” from “a variety of sources,” including the trust fund.”

Cheh’s response: The fund just doesn’t have money to do this kind of job-creation. “The fund has about $7 million,” WaPo reports which Cheh says “couldn’t possibly be devoted only to weatherization projects.” She believes Fenty and WIN might be confused about the trust.

“When we do get there, weatherization will be a part of it,” she said. “This may be a project that could be realized, but to speak about it as if it’s right around the corner may be a little more than the facts can bear.”

At least no one can fault Councilmember Harry Thomas Jr. on his job creation skills. A strip club is moving to northeast.

WaPo reports that the Stadium Club is believed to be opening on Queens Chapel Road NE very soon. According to its website, the Stadium Club isn’t just any strip joint. You want a little fine dining with your depressing night of drunken loserdom? The Stadium Club has got you covered. Its website promises:

“Prepare yourself for a whole new Gentlemen’s Club standard in Washington, DC. When you think of the best strip club cities you think of Vegas, Atlanta, Orlando, Tampa, LA, or New York. Now that is all about to change.

Stadium Club is the new standard in Adult Entertainment and Fine Dining. Stadium Club is centered on providing the highest quality in talent, five-star food and the ultimate Gentlemen’s Club experience, starting with providing the best in national and international feature talent as well as premiere local talent never before seen in the region.”

Forget the talent. The Stadium Club offers valet parking. Fuck. What’s better than valet parking? Elvis:

“For VIP Members, we provide Priority Valet Parking, Priority Seating, Personal Concierge Services and Complimentary Sedan Services upon request. Please call 202 269 4477 and [ask] for Elvis.”
