The appalling simplicity of this argument hardly bears explanation, but it's offensive, short sighted, and just plain stupid. You can't eliminate the problems of society by isolating yourself from them, unless they plan to erect a wall around Georgetown.

This is just another way for the "haves" to say that they don't feel like they should have to help pay for the problems created by the po' inner city folks who are a drain on society.

Of course if everyone was allowed to decide how their tax money was spent at this level, there would be no interstate highways, no public schools, no fire department, no police department, and so on.

I wonder how those g'town people would feel when DCFD refused to respond to a fire that was too much for their two-truck fire department to handle, or when it comes time to rebuild the Key Bridge.

The notion of G'town or any other part of DC seceding is particularly absurd in light of the history being made right now in full equality for all DC residents, which simply is not shared fully across the line in MD, and the picture even worse in the other direction--VA's Atty Gen having just launched an attempted rollback of *all* basic protections to the LGBT community.

Ms. Joynt: count me out of rolling back recent victories via secession to VA or MD (and creating a mini papal state for any neighborhood is, of course, even less realistic, esp. with noodlez as Viceroy).
