I've never heard much on this topic before but was definitely surprised when you reported the historical precedent on the subject. The fact that the motion had passed multiple times in the past is fascinating and makes you think what has changed in the area & population since then

Today Carol Joynet is claiming Bill Gates hit on her last night at the KenCen. She probably had had a few belts. Sounds like something a barfly at Nathans would think and then of course say.

Her name is Joynt, not Joynet. About her blog, what is with the Lewinsky retrospective counterposed with old Sally Quinn video? Is this some way to take focus off her new BFF Sally Quinn? As is oft repeated, before there was a "Lewinsky" there was a "Sally Quinn". Unfortunately for Quinn, Monica Lewinsky was a young woman who got caught up in an unfortunate situation and has moved on. Quinn was/is woman with a salacious "past" who can't stop beating dead horses.

Joynt was about as delicate as anyone could possibly be with that whole oldhogate, not the seafood restaurant, fiasco last week but Quinn must have laid down the law.
Carol Joynt shoulds seize the day. Quinn is through!

If cocaine is Carol Joynets drug of choice she can find NA meetings at cprna.org. I hope she gets some help. It does appear from her blog that she is pretty focused on using (wine a whole lot)and blaming others. We've all been there. I hope she gets the help she needs.

Georgetown could be the capital city of the new oligarchy of Texasalaska. Sarah Palin could be the president, or not depending on her mood. Carol Joynet could throw entime little whine and cheese receptions at her cottage on Embassy Alley. Sally Quinn could work the oil rig and cannery dudes.

Ms. Joynet might want to check out the Westside Club at 1341 Wisconsins Avenue in the heart of G'town or the Triangle Club on P west of Dupont. Good luck.

Miss Joynt should spend some quiet time far from the maddening crowd pondering the effects of booze and cocaine on some of the poor decisions young women make.
Georgetown was fine before she showed up. It will be fine after she goes into rehab.

Really, she's no different from any republican/libertarian. The thought process is as old as prostitution: because (I/my family/my block/my neighborhood/my ward/my city/my state) pays more taxes than it receives in services, we're getting screwed. Therefore, we should separate ourselves from those who pay less.

The appalling simplicity of this argument hardly bears explanation, but it's offensive, short sighted, and just plain stupid. You can't eliminate the problems of society by isolating yourself from them, unless they plan to erect a wall around Georgetown.

This is just another way for the "haves" to say that they don't feel like they should have to help pay for the problems created by the po' inner city folks who are a drain on society.

Of course if everyone was allowed to decide how their tax money was spent at this level, there would be no interstate highways, no public schools, no fire department, no police department, and so on.

I wonder how those g'town people would feel when DCFD refused to respond to a fire that was too much for their two-truck fire department to handle, or when it comes time to rebuild the Key Bridge.

Let's connect some dots in this post and comment thread, please.

The notion of G'town or any other part of DC seceding is particularly absurd in light of the history being made right now in full equality for all DC residents, which simply is not shared fully across the line in MD, and the picture even worse in the other direction--VA's Atty Gen having just launched an attempted rollback of *all* basic protections to the LGBT community.

Ms. Joynt: count me out of rolling back recent victories via secession to VA or MD (and creating a mini papal state for any neighborhood is, of course, even less realistic, esp. with noodlez as Viceroy).
