Annals of Unfortunate Press Releases

0219brown

The release has since been recalled.

Since LL is going to poke fun at the release, he might as well pass on the info therein:

Some of the most influential thinkers, political pundits, corporate heads, religious leaders and entertainers will gather on Howard University’s campus for the State of Black America’s Address on Saving and Building Wealth on Tuesday, February 23, 2010 from 9am until 2pm. This unique national financial literacy address, in honor of Black History Month, will include a formal presentation and much needed forum on building wealth not only in America, but globally.

Presented by the Black America Saves (BAS) organization, the goal of the address and forum is to educate, enlighten and empower America by bringing people together and engaging them in thoughtful dialogue, leading to building strong, financially stable communities through individual and community action. Black America Saves State of Black America: Saving and Building Wealth Address and Forum will examine hard-hitting truths about the issue of saving and wealth building and address how politicians, corporations, religious leaders, entertainers, sports figures and American citizens, influence behavioral changes among African Americans.

The specific objectives for the presentation are simple to raise awareness of the importance of financially strong communities, to promote greater participation in saving and wealth building and, by doing so, strengthen not only the African American community but also, America!

    The pomposity, I presume.

um-m-m, no. More likely the lack of proofreading...

    FINANCIAL LITERACY
    --NOT--
    FINANICAL LITEARCY
(although I must admit I like the images conjured up by the press release: "finanical" kinda reminds me of "fanatical" and "lit-ear-cy" could a new way to express from "words/numbers" to the brain through the ear... that leaves us with "cy"--maybe short for "cyanide"...)

LOL OMG. I had read it twice after a very long day and with red eyes. THANKS.

The man's too busy driving his Hummer through the mean streets of Chevy Chase to be worried about SpellCheck.

  • Lovin’ that PR

Oh, I've seen worse from Deborah A. Daniels. And so has LL!

  • sprite

This is litearally one of the worst PR errors I've ever seen!

  • just sayin

A shortcoming in some versions of MS Word is that it won't recognize errors when words are ALL CAPS.

People need to take responsibility for their own product, not blame some computer program.

HOW IS THIS SHIT FUNNY! IT WAS A FUCKING MISTAKE!

INSTEAD OF POKING FUN WHY DOESNT WASHINGTON CITY PAPER PROVIDE SOME INPUT TO THE SIMPLE, SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES OF THE PRESENTATION. YEAH-PICTURE THAT.

THIS IS BLACK HISTORY MONTH AND THIS RAG HAVE FAILED TO DO IT SOME JUSTICE. LEST NOT FORGET THIS STILL IS A PREDOMINATELY BLACK CITY AND REGION. MR. MCKENNA IS THE ONLY ONE WHO ACTUALLY DONE A PIECE IN TUNE WITH WHAT THIS TIME OF THE YEAR IS ALL ABOUT.

FOR THE PAST COUPLE OF WEEKS THE ONLY THING THAT STANDS OUT IS THE CITY DESK'S OBSESSION WITH BARRY AND HIS PETTY ASS DEALINGS AND LIFESTYLE. I GUESS YOU BAMAS ARE CONTENT WITH BEING FISHERMEN AS OPPOSED TO BEING ANGLERS. ANYTHING YOU WRITE ABOUT THIS DUDE WILL NOT STOP THE FOLKS IN HIS WARD FROM PUTTING HIM BACK IN OFFICE. GET OVER IT!

THEN YOU HAVE THAT HORRIBLE ASS SEXIST COLUMNIST MISSING THE POINT AT EVERY TURN. PENNING SHIT ABOUT WHETHER NICKI MINAJ IS A LESBIAN THROUGH HER LYRICS, RAP EUPHEMISMS AND THE GROPING FOREVER SERIES. WILL SOMEONE PLEASE GIVE THAT SWEETHEART OF A GIRL SOME DICK. SHE NEEDS IT BAD! WHEN YOU DO TELL HER TO WRITE SOME SHIT OR POSE SOME QUESTIONS THAT WILL ENLIGHTEN US.

"Annals of Unfortunate Press Releases" SHOULD READ AS ANAL PRESS RELEASES UNFORTUNATE SHIT COLUMNS.

The problem is that Word doesn't pick up spelling errors when the writing is in all caps. It's a problem I've encountered myself. Still, there's really no excuse for this kind of mistake. Someone needs to proof things before they go out. I'm sure that Michael Brown is furious.
