Morning Roundup: Suck It, Chris Matthews Edition

stormy kromer

CHRIS MATTHEWS PLAYED HARDBALL last night with the District, pounding Fenty like back-to-back snowstorms. D.C., said Matthews, has "the weather of Buffalo with the snowplowing capability of Miami." LL dispatched Matthews nicely last night; for a more nuanced take check out yesterday's Kojo NnamdeNnamdi, on which I heard DDOT head Gabe Klein remind people that you can't fund snow removal with the expectation that you'll get 15 inches a year, then freak out when that isn't enough money to deal with 60.

MORE SNOW MONDAY? Parents region-wide will freaking contemplate suicide if this happens. Today will be my kids' seventh day in the house, and when you find yourself shaking your head knowingly at a Petula Dvorak column, you know it's grim. Not "Johnny Damon looking for a job" grim, but close.

BY THE WAY DO YOU KNOW HOW SERIOUS THIS STORM WAS? It sort of affected New York City!

WHAT'S THE BUZZ? Google Buzz! I'm not sure what it is, but I have 31 followers on it and am following 45 others. Seems like a good way to keep up with my friends' bon mots, even if it has a "huge privacy flaw." We still get to care about privacy? Some things I learned in Google Buzz yesterday: Genius CP alum Mike Riggs has decided to consolidate all his information there: "Hey Buzzers! Welcome to my Google land, where everything tastes like John Mayer's regret!" and stalwart contributor Aaron Leitko is organizing a videoshoot on the CP parking deck. "Aaron, is this offer only good while there's snow piled up? How many cameras?" asked Tom Carrico at 10:07 p.m. Sorry if that's a flaw in your privacy, dudes.

ALLEZ LES HABS! (Sorry.)

CHRIS IS CORRECT! FENTY AND RHREE SHOULD BE CHARGED WITH RECKLESS ENDANGERMENT AND SENT TO ST. ELIZABETH IN PADDED CELLS UNTILL THIS SNOW RECORD IS BROKEN . THEN OUR CHILDREN, SENIORS AND RESIDENTS WILL BE SAFE FROM THESE PSYCO'S .

  • Andrew Beaujon

    DO YOU REALLY THINK SO?

  • Ward One Resident

Mathews point wasn't just about snow removal. That was certainly part of it, but it wasn't all of Mathews' call for a challenger for Fenty.

Amen Chris Matthews, he was right.

If the District Transportation Director doesn't understand that there is more to getting the Nation's Capital moving than getting his cronnies to Starbucks then he should be fired. He just doesn't get it.

That he didn't even ask his boss, the Mayor, to consider requesting a federal state of emergency to corral federal resources, when he already knew the District's snow removal equipment was down by more than 25%, BEFORE the PREDICTED storm, speaks volumes of his competence at leading an operational intensive agency such as transportation. The District doesn't need transportation snow cheerleaders it needs smart, intuitive and experienced operational leaders. Mr. Klein ain't it...sorry. A good guy to have coffee with, but not the person I want to be in the captain's chair of a crippled ship. He'd propose everyone sing Kum-Bay-Ah.

Chris Matthews said what everyone reasonable in the District are thinking.

gabe klein had no experience in public transportation before being named Department head. he worked at smartcar or zipcar and ran a food cart. i mean, really? not that that differs from some of the Heads of other Fenty agencies, (are you under 40? clueless? YOU ARE IN! ) it should be no wonder that this cleanup is not going well.

Both Virginia and Maryland declared a State of Emergency. A state of emergency is a governmental declaration that may suspend certain normal functions of government, alert citizens to alter their normal behaviors, or order government agencies to implement emergency preparedness plans. D.C. did not declare an emergency. Federal assistance also becomes available to areas that are declared to be in a state of emergency, therefore, snow removal or overtime cost would be covered.

  • Andrew Beaujon

Yes, imagine what a paradise the District would be if only it ever received federal assistance! But thanks for playing the feud!

  • Ahem

    That's Nnamdi, not Nnamde.

  • Andrew Beaujon

GAH! I can't believe I messed that up. Thanks, Ahem.

hey! ward one resident! you plagarized me! (but improved my capitalization) and for that, I love you!

ANY criticism of a black politician is RACISM, according to the D-crat handbook. Ergo, ANYBODY that criticizes the gross incompetence of Fenty is a racist.

Stellabloom, you were on point with you comment, I just had to use it again and in the Washington Post. Gabe Klein have no experience to run DDOT and his predecesor before him Emeke. Mayor Fenty discriminates against people 45 and up, but usually his cabinet members are under 40. I am so glad Fenty was exposed on national television. Stellabloom they are talking about King Fenty in today's liberal New York Times and Los Angeles Times about his taking heat from Chris Matthews. I love you too Stellabloom and I give you a high five.
