Shovel Patrol: Clark Ray
Washington City Paper embarked Sunday afternoon upon an SUV-assisted inspection of various notable persons' sidewalks. Did they comply with their civic duty to clear walkways for pedestrians within eight daylight hours after the snowfall ended?

Position: at-large council candidate
Address: 1613 Webster St. NW (Crestwood)
Observations: Ray, owner of a classic blond-brick Crestrood row house, completely cleared his front stoop down to bare concrete. But the front walk, while indeed shoveled, exhibited some ice in places. Get this guy a bag of salt!
Grade: B

LL, the photo of sidewalk in front of his home is a bit close in, but appears he spent hours on his personal property (steps/walkway to front door) while pretty much ignoring the public walkway. If true, grade should be C- at best, especially considering he's running for public office.

Now, now, TruthHurts, I shoveled my walk repeatedly, but still have some ice patches too that I'm dealing with. And I know my friend Clark has been busy helping neighbors, esp. seniors and special needs. I'm subjective, but I'll say he gets an A+ as a neighbor in SnowMyGodden.

JL, like I said, the photo was too tight in to be sure. But if he's really been busy helping others as you say, I'll change his grade to B+.

The other issue is that his stoop faces south and thus gets more sun. The walk is east-west and obscured by snow shadows. Coulda been wider, but not enough foot traffic on that block to really ding him for it.

(Actually, I've been hesitant to put chemicals or salt on my ice patches, out of concern for so many pets on my block; I'm hunting a small bag of sand. Remember the paws, folks.)

I am surprised you made up my street! You get an A just for making it up Webster - nothing like a 24 inch snow packed street! Next time you drop by - knock and come in for a visit - if you had peered closely you would have noticed three bags of "Pet, Lawn, Enviro friendly salt (no lie - the bag states it!)on the porch! We "Salt" every morning and early evening. I am happy to report that we are "Ice" free as of this post!

I didn't know Clark Ray lived in King Fenty's neighborhood of Crestwood. I will not be voting for Clark Ray nor King Adrian Malik Fenty in 2010. I give Ray Clark a grade B+ for shoveling his walkway.
