Fenty Breaks from Storm Planning for ‘Athletic Release’

fenty

Not even the aftermath of an historic blizzard and today's scary forecast could keep Mayor Adrian M. Fenty from getting his "athletic release." WTOP's Mark Segraves reports via Twitter that Mayor Adrian Fenty still managed to get in a few reps today. Segraves writes:

"As region prepares for more snow, DC Mayor Fenty is taking time to hit the gym. AF seen @ cycle life in Georgetown."

Questions about "AF"'s Georgetown exertions threw CycleLife's staff into a tizzy. A staffer who answered the phone clammed up when asked to confirm the executive visit. City Desk insisted on speaking to a manager. Citing corporate policy, the manager refused to either confirm or deny that Fenty had done some exercise at CycleLife's K Street NW location. Is CycleLife bound by FOIA regulations?

What, a guy can't go to the gym without being hounded by press? Please. Cherkis, you ought follow his lead and get some exercise too. Clears the mind.

  • Joan

Mayor Flinty needs to calm down.

  • Wrack

Seriously. Can't stand Fenty, think he's a big jerk and a terrible person, but he's allowed to get some exercise for crying out loud (as long as he's not misusing gov't funds to do so)...

Why rail about whether FOIA should apply to a private facility? That's mold school.
Instead, you should totally needle the council into passing a bill requiring OCTO make available the GPS coordinates of the mayor at all by times. Suggested implementation path: Hold an Apps for Democracy contest to create an interactive real time and historic map utilizing the GPS coordinates from his blackberry.
Or, you could just quit obsessing, the very thing you imply he is doing, by the way.

when my street 14th and T has never seen a plow and only 8" snow ruts made by cars are the way we have to maneuver, he needs to be in the bullpen or riding with snow plows because they are not doing their job. I saw one snow plow driver yesterday with blade down and scraping about 1" off the 6 in crust of ice and he was talking on his cell phone.

    @sf:
"I saw one snow plow driver yesterday with blade down and scraping about 1" off the 6 in crust of ice"

You just hit the nail on the head. In deep packed snow like this, it can take multiple passes- hours of work- to clear a single block. My advice is relax and enjoy what you can of the weather.

Someone get the Mayor a shovel...it's a helluva workout for the entire body.

LL: isn't it illegal to stalk public officials?

    Good Heavens,

You guys are acting like the paparazzi now? Why don't you follow him into the bathroom stall and count how long he pees. I mean, really. He is a human. He has the right to a little private time.

Are we to suppose that he ordered all the trucks in the District to stop working until he got done? Do you think he threw has Blackberrys in the office drawer? Sent his assistants home.

And you wonder why the man gives canned answers to the press at short press conferences. They act like stalkers.

3.8 seconds, zipper to zipper. The guy's a machine.

  • Truth Hurts

hymesb: The "athletic release" boner was Cherkis' doing, not LL's. LL's been on shovel patrol duty, which has been a creative and entertaining series.

    Truth hurts, oops!

    My bad LL.

MR.CHERKIS KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK! OUT THIS CLOWN FOR WHO HE REALLY IS.

THIS BAMA SHOULD NOT BE TAKING TIME OUT FOR ANYTHING.
THE REASON HE IS GOING TO THE GYM IS BECAUSE THE STREETS ARENT CLEAR ENOUGH FOR HIM TO RIDE ON.

THE MAJOR ARTERIES ARE SOMEWHAT CLEAR, THE SECONDARY STREETS ARE BAD AND THE SIDE STREETS ARE ATROCIOUS!

HIS SIDEWALK MAY GET A PASSABLE GRADE BUT THE DC STREETS AS A WHOLE GET A SOLID D.

Once Adrian became mayor, he gave up being a private citizen and having a private life. I support Adrian going to the gym and staying in shape, but during this snow crisis his time should be very limited for activities like working out, unitl this crisis is over. Hopefully Adrian will be a private citizen again come January 2011 after he loses the election in September. Fenty had no right to have non essential D.C. Government employees to report to work and the Federal Government is close and Metro is running a skeleton shift with few Metro bus routes. I work in the private sector for a National Trade Association and when the federal government shuts down, so does my organization and many others in D.C. Even the Banks closes too. Shame on you Adrian and you are losing D.C. voters respect daily.

What I know is driving back from snowboarding trips the last two weekends, BFE backroads MD and WV were fine for driving with a cheap front wheel drive car, and they had actually received much more snow than the DC area. Montgomery, Fairfax, Arlington, and DC were pretty bad on major highways and intersections.

Cherkis, get a life. 1. This is not a crisis, it is a just a little snow, it will melt, life will be fine...I promise. 2. After serving several tours in Iraq, I can tell you that a little physical activity can clear your head and help you make better decisions, even when the world is falling apart around you. 3. Mayor Fenty is not perfect, but 100 thousand times better than the crack smoking criminals we have had (and still have).

I fully support Mayor Fenty and the tremendous steps he has made in making DC a world class city.
