Expect David Catania’s Re-Election Decision Soon
Mayoral wannabes, including Council Chairman Vincent C. Gray and businessman R. Donahue Peebles, are certainly drawing out their decisions to challenge incumbent Mayor Adrian M. Fenty.
But LL hears another politico who has thus far kept his supporters hanging is nearing a decision. At-Large Councilmember David A. Catania will soon announce whether he will run for a fourth full term.
According to Ben Young, Catania's chief of staff, the 13-year council veteran expects to make a decision shortly after his 42nd birthday, which is on Jan. 16. As to what that decision will be, Catania has informed several close supporters to assume that he's running again.
Catania, of course, will stand for re-election as an independent less than a year after his greatest legislative triumph—legalizing gay marriages in the District of Columbia—to add to a strong record on city health issues. He would have one thus-far-declared opponent: Anthony Motley, a Ward 8 minister and community activist who abandoned his Democratic party affiliation last year to pursue an independent run.

Catania is definately mean and surley. Traits that I believe he misinterprets as being tough with strong will. Similar to the same misinterpretation that I believe the Mayor has. However, I don't wish either of them dead. Just out of public office.
I have seen some of the worst grandstanding on the dais come from Catania. He uses his seat on the Council as a license to disrespect those who appear before him. He seems to delight in attacking someone's professionalism and dignity. Then, he wonder's why nobody honor's Council requests to appear before them.
He is running at-large, so, for my part, I won't vote for him, however, if nobody runs against him, that will do little to undue his overly inflated ego.

Unfortunately David Catania has drunk his own Kool-Ade. Ever since he figured out how much easier it was to raise money from the few with mega-bucks (remember the stadium deal) the from the masses he has served a constituency of one, himself.
I have supported him in the past but will not moving forward. He has become mostly a mean bully as mentioned above. That being said unless his polling shows he is dead in the water you can count on his running again.
