Pershing Park Case: Ramsey’s Attorney Asks For Thousands In Fees

"As I walked closer, about five or six feet away from them, I heard Chief Ramsey say, 'We're going to lock them up and teach them a lesson.'"
This quote taken from Det. Paul Hustler's affidavit filed in mid-November in the Pershing Park case didn't just contradict former Chief Charles Ramsey's previous testimony that he did not order the now-infamous mass arrests of 400 individuals on Sept. 27, 2002. It embarrassed the police department, and it infuriated the Office of the Attorney General. It has also proved to be extremely costly to the city.
In a motion filed last week [PDF], Ramsey's attorney Mark Tuohey III asked that the court approve lawyer fees for work conducted between Sept. 1 and Nov. 30. The District has already agreed to pay Tuohey's fees.
And how much is the District is willing to pay Tuohey for those three months worth of work? More than one hundred thousand dollars—$119,615 and 36 cents.

There was a day when Mark Tuohey had a reputable legal career. Then he allowed loose women and booze to lead him to the DC public teat to which he has apparently become addicted.
It is no fun to say I told you so but there are those of us who recognized Ramsey for what he was at the time it was relevant. Kathy Patterson was one who did, and for anyone still considering Fenty butt boy Clark Ray as a viable Council candidate, Phil Mendelson was another.
Without them the travesty of DC taxpayers still financing that bloated bovine Ramsey would be even worse.
And what is up with his partner in arms, Terry Gainer, another disreputable parasite.

In light of the information revealed in the Chang Plaintiffs Motion the district should immediately stop paying the attorney fees for Mr. Ramsey, Assistant Chief Peter Newsham and any other government defendant.
After a thorough investigation, I’m sure we will find that Mr. Ramsey’s plan was to arrest as many demonstrators as possible and to keep them incarcerated over the weekend so that they could not return to the site of the demonstration once released, indicating that he conspired from the very beginning to violate the protesters rights. He did not care if they sued because any award would not be paid by him. Why else would Chief Lanier devise a method (hogtie) to restrain the protesters over a long period of time? It doesn’t take that long to process protesters. At least not long enough for them to concoct the idea of committing mass fornication. Processing demonstrators was not new to the District. Mr. Ramsey and his accomplices need to be shown that illegal conduct will result in sanctions regardless of the perpetrator.
Regarding the new information that has emerged concerning to the missing documentation related to the Pershing Park arrest it appears that Mr. Ramsey and his accomplices, to include the current chief, Cathy Lanier consciously defiled the office that they swore to uphold and betrayed the trust of the residents of the District of Columbia. Then, calculatingly destroyed evidence in an attempt to hide their wrongdoing.
Any morals, ethics and integrity that they may have possessed when they joined the department went straight out the window. They are a true embarrassment and disgrace to the uniform and Mr. Ramsey certainly should not be rewarded with retirement benefits funded by district taxpayers. Law enforcement officers are held to a higher standard than the ordinary citizen and law enforcement managers must be held to an even higher standard since they set the example for the officers.

Wassup, you're spot on about Patterson and Mendelson.
