D.C. Police Shoot Angry Pit Bull
Maybe you've already seen reports on this police-involved shooting of an angry pit bull. But the details are worth getting into. According to a D.C. Police Department press release, 2D cops responded last night to the 3400 block of Quebec Street NW to investigate a call concerning a dog-bite victim.
Before the police arrived on scene, a witness heard the victim scream for help. He managed to pry the pit bull off the victim and get the dog back in its cage.
D.C. Animal Control and DC Fire/EMS responded to the scene. The victim, an adult female, was admitted to a local hospital in stable condition.
So what about the dog?
D.C. Police write:
"During the investigation of the incident, the dog reportedly became aggressive and got out of the cage. Animal Control employees made several unsuccessful attempts to secure the dog. The dog then charged towards one of the responding officers. Fearing imminent danger for his safety and the safety of others, the officer fired his service weapon, striking and injuring the dog.
Animal Control officers were then able to secure the dog, which has subsequently been euthanized."
The press release quotes Police Chief Cathy Lanier praising both the citizen who rescued the woman and the police officer who shot the dog.
“This is a tragic incident,” said Police Chief Cathy L. Lanier. “I commend the man, who put his own life in danger and stepped in to assist the victim in this violent dog attack. I also want to recognize the sergeant who stopped the dog from attacking anyone else.”

I live near Quebec Street NW. I would have kicked the fucking dog in the head if I had to. I hate pit bulls and the people who own them.

I tend not to be sympathetic to these dogs either, though I have known one who was the sweetest, gentlest, goofiest, most sentimental dog I have ever met. But generally , yeah - bad news. Especially their owners. Here. In this city.
This is a nightmare story.

I agree it is a nightmare story and any dog who attacks should be evaluated..but to lump the owners into it is a little harsh. Do some research and find out what breed has the most attacks, you will be surprised. My son was attacked by a golden lab, but I'm not out after all lab owners. Any dog can attack. I own 2 pits could they bite someone yeap just as much as the sheltie that bit a friends leg walking home from work or the mutt that charged my dog and I ended up with 10 stiches trying to pry it off her. My dog needed stiches also the other dog didn't have a single wound. Any dog attack is bad, but don't blame a whole breed and their owners alone.there is bad in every breed as well as great.

The MPD should be abolished for parroting the same old boilerplate crap: "fearing imminent danger for his safety and the safety of others, the officer fired his service weapon". Until they speak like real people, I'm not listening.

White dude in Oakland got stabbed to death on T Day eve. Walking his dog w/o a leash, dude argued with a man after the dog sniffed the man.
The white dude was with his daughter, & his dog was a German shepherd. I don't really blame the guy stabbing the guy without a leash on his dog - some people have dog phobias, some people just don't take shit from nobody no time no way. Que sera, sera.
The moral of these stories:
Take care of your dogs. If your dogs threaten people, you or your dogs may get killed.

here's the link to the dog-sniffing killing - it was by a gun, not a knife, & in Hayward, not Oakland; same diff, east bay, & he's dead, knife or gun.

Pitbull owners are complete POS - each and every one of them- across the board- evry SINGLE one
That just what this crime-ridden hell hole needs- vicious dogs with bad owners

FYI, for those of you who remember the 'Little Rescals' series, 'Petee' the dog in the show with a black ring around his left eye was a Pit Bull. It's not the breed it the way the dog is raised.

I, too, use a pit-bull who will be the most warm animal I've ever owned. Quickly, a new dog breed will occur together to the media to blast, as they have completed rotties and dobies in previous years. Unfortunate that media sensationalism breeds much inaccurate details.

Pit bulls can be great dogs but not in the wrong hands on so many levels. Aggressive, violent, a'holes notwithstanding any pit benefits from an experienced dog owner who knows how to convey who is pack leader.
I have known great pits, rotties and dobies, its all nurture vs. nature.
And Shelties and Border Collies which I have, need a facile hand too.
