Homeless Shelters Reaching Capacity For Women

This is going to be an especially tough season for the homeless. The number of homeless families jumped in recent months. For the week of Nov. 9 to Nov. 15, there were 429 families on the waiting list for services. Ten families who had applied for shelter returned to seek services again. Of the nearly 30 families who asked that week for services, the majority were turned away and sought shelter with relatives.

And this week, shelters for women reached capacity.

On Nov. 24, according to census figures, all but one bed had been used in shelters for homeless women. On Nov. 23, men were over capacity by 23. Women shelters were completely filled up. On Nov. 17, the men were 17 over capacity at one shelter. For the entire city, the women shelters were one over capacity.

Skins lose again. 1 in 8 Americans on food stamps. Shelters closed - tax breaks for buying houses. Tax breaks for people with jobs & "second homes" - nothing for the 20% unemployed [the true figure, not the govt's fiction].

The Obama-Bush-Clinton-Bush-Reagan economic policies have failed. This country is failing.

Tax rich people. Impose a 90% tax on income, just as was done from 1940-1983. There was no shortage of rich people then - Kennedys, Rockefellers, Morgans, et al. - & no shortage of people trying to get rich. They just had to pay a lot more in taxes.

Americans are such suckers. Eventually the pathetic peasantry here will evolve & we will have socialism, like Western Europe has had for almost a century.
