Hmm, I wonder about the political fallout. Will Democrats, who have been piecing together an ambitious plan to save the failing newspaper industry, rush assistance to keep the Washington Times running? Will Ben Cardin, D-Md., come up with some way to funnel govenment cash to save this vital voice? Some of us have long thought the mysterious funding for the Washington Times was coming from the CIA, via the Korean CIA anyway. There are not enough Moonies to come up with the $2 billion the Washington Times has lost in the last two decades.

Hey, Erik, why not jump in your car, drive over to Solomon's West Virginia estate, knock on the door, and ask him in person? That's what Solomon would have done during his investigative days at AP.

I only recently found this blog and enjoy it. But "declaim against" = "decry," not "declaim" = "decry"; you hadn't used "against."

I have no clue what the Washington Times is paying Don Meyer, but I am quite sure I can save the Unification Church a considerable amount of money - I will say "I have absolutely no idea" over and over and over for half of whatever Don is making and I will say it with far greater authority. Call, Me, Jon Slavin, I will make myself look like an ignorant tool for a very reasonable fee, though I will demand a weekly lunch in the corporate cafeteria.

To "Just sayin'": Please check the dictionary before just sayin' in the future. Definition of "declaim": speak against in an impassioned manner; "he declaimed against the wasteful ways of modern society" But the main thing: Thanks for reading and caring enough to post a comment.

Employees have a right to privacy even if, in case of the editor, they had/have a quasi-public-figure status. Sometimes the less in Google, the better, when it comes to the career hunt. Meyer should have said goodbye, can't-help-buddy, after your second question to spare you both the pain of this tortured exchange.

The Washington Times has always had something of an insular place. Opacity was a good word choice. In a normal newsroom, all this info would have properly leaked out in real time and the wasn't-this-painful memo posted on Romenesko already.
