Thank you David, for giving the man his due. Henry, together with the late, great Henry Mitchell, was the very best the Style section, or any section of any newspaper ever produced. He was a giant among pygmies, and, as someone who had the honor to be one of those pygmies, (and yes a female one for the reader who thinks that that issue has anything to do with what we're talking about) I learned more about writing and courage from him than from any other source. His writing isn't hard to find: Google. Lexus. Nexus. The library. Read his stuff. It's worth the time and trouble.

David:
--- Is there an archive or compendium of Henry Allen writings somewhere?

--- Is there perchance a biography of Henry Allen?

If there isn't either or both, might you consider writing/compiling one yourself?

I have met Henry, but only briefly in a social setting, and had no idea of what he had achieved that would correspond to your assessment. Maybe I'm not the only one. And now I'm curious. And you might be just the person to help out here!

could someone please define more precisely this "golden age" of the Post?

what are we talking about? the 80s? the 90s? lot of rose colored glasses i think. yeah watergate was great and all but most of the women in the newsroom weren't reporters, but secretaries and you'd be hard pressed to find anyone who wasn't a white male in charge.
