Mr McGinty, as is his right, put on one playwright's plays: his own. Even the Folger Shakespeare Theater does not limit itself to one playwright. It's ridiculous to say the theater is not viable because the neighborhood has not reacted as favorably to Mr McGinty's plays as he had hoped.

The article mentions the Takoma Theater Conservancy, but not the fact that it has, with help from a DC grant, done a viability study that belies the "nail-biting theatre-nostalgics" slur.

Finally, it is not the building that supposedly cuts two million from the value of the lot, it's the historic preservation law. Think how rich we could all be if we could change the law whenever we find it convenient to do so!

I moved to Takoma almost three years ago and would LOVE to see the Takoma Theatre restored and used for plays, movies and community events. We have a fantastic amount of art in the neighborhood and no adequate venue. Instead of reporting that Takoma has not been kind to the arts, do a little investigation: There is a LOT going on in Takoma...it's just the Theatre hasn't been open to the community.
