Georgetown Student, Too Busy to Drive Self to Work, Seeks Personal Assistant

helpwantedBeing a college student is very demanding. There is the whole academic thing. Like going to classes, and completing homework assignments. Then, on top of that, you're expected to feed yourself. And clean yourself, and clean your clothes, and clean your room (or not). It's all too much, really.

Which is why one Georgetown University student - an overtaxed sophomore! - has placed an ad with the campus' student employment office seeking a personal assistant.

The Georgetown Voice's blog Vox Populi reprints the ad in full. We offer some of the highlights here:

As my PA you will receive an email once a day by 9:00 am with a task list for that day and a time estimate for each task. Important tasks will be bolded on the list and must be done that day (even though everything on the list should theoretically be finished on a daily basis). At the end of the day you will send me an email telling me what tasks are incomplete or that all tasks have been completed.

Seriously?

The pay is listed as $10-$12 an hour, which isn't bad, really, for the work Mr. Busy Student wants done. Among the tasks listed:

Organize closet - make bed -Drop off / pick up dry cleaning -Drop me off / pick me up from work -Do laundry -Fill up gas tank -bring car for servicing -schedule appointment for haircut -Pay parking tickets -manage electronic accounts -shopping and running errands -other random tasks.

Start date: immediate. Perks: occasional bonuses at employer's "discretion."

Is anyone surprised that the children of privilege attend GW? I remember visiting a friend at Princeton many years ago. He lived in a old dormitory that had rooms for the servants.

With unemployment being what it is, why are we even making fun of this kid? If he has the money, I think it's admirable to hire someone and spread it around.

It appears to me that he needs his mommy...

Maybe the occasional bonuses will be last seasons J.Crew sweaters and embroidered Vinyard Vines khakis!

Charlie, GW is George Washington University. GU is Georgetown University. And everyone I've talked to at Georgetown thinks this kid is as big a tool as you do so don't judge the school cause this kid sucks.
