Did the City ever announce this program? Also, leaving the pause/record up to the drivers seems a little subjective you think? Just this morning, I saw two of them in my neighborhood. I would never think that a "pelican" would be a menacing vehicle. I now know different.

Fenty's plan to fix the budget shortfall, ticket the H*LL out of its citizens and visitors. Tickets have doubled in cost, yet we are getting LESS out of DMV. They closed a service station, inspections are less thorough, yet we are paying MORE ($35).

Given the number of times I've received letters demanding I pay double for failing to paying a ticket I never received (including one memorable incident when I was, according to the DC government, pulled over in downtown DC while my car and I were in Philadelphia) I have to wonder if it is policy to leave the cameras on at all times secure in the knowledge that many, if not most, people will just pay to avoid the hassle of contesting a bogus ticket.

I've gotten a couple of bogus sweeper cam tickets. The first one I got, the camera photographed me on the opposite side of the street from the one being swept that day. I sent in a letter to adjudication services with an explanation and photos showing the sign indicating that it was OK to park there that day, but they say they never received it. The second one, I got both a sweepercam ticket and I paper ticket from a parking enforcement officer, classic double citation for a single violation. Yet to hear from adjudication services on that one. There are so many bugs in the system that thee tickets are issued in an arbitrary and capricious manner. I don't know if this violates due process, but I think an amnesty is only fair until they get the bugs worked out.

Yeah I got a sweepercam ticket (I was laid up in bed with an injury and unable to move my vehicle). My issue with them is that they didn't mail me the ticket, they sent me a notice that I owed $70 since I had an unpaid ticket where the fine had doubled. So rather than quadrupling their revenue collections for street sweeping fines (the stated goal of the program) they can octuple it and save money on postage as well. I will remember this next November when Fenty comes up for re-election. Where past administrations have been benignly incompetent, the Fenty administration is aggressively incompetent.
