Fred, I actully think she'll be valuable to the city, just maybe some place else... what I found interesting are all of the salary increases. She's probably one of the brighter one's Fenty has brought on to be honest, but she's much better suited (in my opinion) to be in the education area. But yes, her lack of remorse for those unjustifiable firings tainted my feelings toward her.

Ward 5 - I watched part of the hearing too, and all I can say is that there is grievous behavior and allegations on both sides. It was wrong to fire those people without a hearing, no question about that. But so were some of the commentaries about why she was not qualified. In the portion I saw, the chairman (Thomas) was doing a fine job. I disagree with the Post there.

It's gotten muddled and hard to sort out. In many ways, to date X.H has done a great job. But she made a big mistake in firing those employees.

The Thomas "hearings" were a joke.

Had Hartsock been black and Thomas been white, and he said the same things about race, gender and nationality, there would be widespread outrage at such blatant racism and sexism from an elected official.

Instead, we just got to watch Thomas and Barry confirm their utter boorishness, buffoonery, and biggotry.

I coudn't this on WaPo so I had to post elsewhere regarding the Hartsock confirmation hearing - I watched the hearing, they SHOULD be opposed. There was no racism there - what the hell was WaPo looking at? They were right in asking her why she's lived here for 13 years and isn't a US Resident - I would have problems with that too. They're racist because they questioned her immagration status? She bs'd around EVERY question especially those involving the people she fired. She said (on the record) she fired x amount of people without a formal evaluation and hired more people almost doubling the salary of those she fired. So Wapo - stop sticking up Fenty's butt - look at the tape from an independent eye prior to reporting. Its about time someone started fighting the mayor back! Even more funny is the fact that WaPo wont allow me to post this.
