<description>Mr. DeBonis, I am a retired military veteran. I have taught in the classrooms of DCPS. I have been involved in education for a number of years with the United Negro College Fund, the National Association for Equal Opportunity in Higher Education, and Texas College. I am actively involved in community service through my volunteerism, in the past and currently with the DC Federation of Civic Associations, the Bloomingdale Civic Association, Ward 5 Council on Education, Ward 5 Democrats, Veterans and Military Families for Progress, DC Open Government Coalition, DC American Lung Association, and the 5th District Citizens’ Advisory Council/DC Metropolitan Police Department. I have marched for “civil” and “silver” rights and I protest against discrimination in all forms. I have marched for District voting rights. I am on no one’s payroll. I exercise my rights as a citizen. For you to conjecture by writing I am “always a circus” clown was disrespectful and petty. You belittled not only who I am as an individual, but also you showed no respect for my community service commitment. I am sure you and your media colleagues always take pleasure in minimizing the seriousness of my community service, and seek to single me out for ridicule, if not ignore my community involvement. However, by doing so you and your media colleagues demonstrate your own lack of professionalism and integrity. Finally, sticks and stones my break my bones, but your less than polite words will not stop me from fighting injustice.
