Calls of gunshots is really a bad statistic to go on if you're trying to gauge crime because many folks don't know the difference between fireworks and sounds of gunshots (this is not a bad thing) and many of those calls for shots fired end up being fireworks/firecrackers. Considering the amount of press we get for gang activity in Columbia Heights and Petworth, the reality doesn't look as that bad as one might think.
