Weekend in Review: High Noon Edition

  • Hey!
  • Bad weekend for the Alexandria chief of police. Not just a DUI, not just BAC of .19, not just driving a city-issued vehicle, but busted in Arlington! That's like your taller, stronger, smarter younger brother catching you smoking and totally narcing you out to your parents.
  • Virginia gubernatorial race: Except for the opportunity to use the word gubernatorial, looking like a real snooze. Even crazy Doug Wilder can't alienate people on this one. What's this race gonna come down to? Degrees of difference on lukewarm-button issues? I'm gonna call it for McDonnell and stop paying attention.
  • Love this blog, but I could have painted a green line down the middle of Columbia Road NW by the time I got through the metaphor at the end.
  • I have nothing to say about the ombudsman's column in yesterday's Post.

I wonder if he's on paid leave? Civilians who get caught DUI don't normally get checks when they commit trash company property and are subsequently banned from the office.

Yes, he's on paid leave - of course! & he'll probably keep his job, after he goes through his insurance-paid counseling & shows remorse & yadda yadda yadda.

This is Alexandria, after all - remember a few years ago when Alexandria's "zero tolerance" schools superintendent got busted for drunk driving? She kept her job.

What's hilarious here is how drunk the cop was - .19 is way, way up there. He was almost comatose.

Still, the pigs take care of each other. He'll be back in the saddle in a few weeks.
