I gotta admit: it worked. If I had not heard you on WHUR daily drum, I would have never picked up your paper this week.

I read the piece and have a couple of thoughts that I hope you will consider:

1) Ten years from now or after Marion Barry passes on, will anyone remember the legitimate issues raised by this episode in your piece? Of course not! They will recall the front page headline and if you are professionally ok with that for the short term return, so be it;

2) I saw nothing in your piece about the $5000 per month contract that is apparently at the heart of the whole ethics inquire which leads me to my primary thought:

3) Marion Barry's history and "how he rolls" is on every bathroom wall in the city yet you portrayed Ms. Watts-Brighthaupt as this innocent naive struggling victim willing to work her way up the ladder.

Cmon Mike!

You are bought with a price.

You would have a better chance of convincing me that campaign contributors do not expect anything from the politicians they support than you would that a woman who gets such attention from Marion Barry is at a loss for what he expects from her.

This does not condone or justify her being stalked or treated as she apparently was in Denver. But don't tell me she should not have expected this.

At the end of the day, Marion Barry is a glorified trick and only tricksters of like minds engage with such people. The fact that he had the most power in the situation should not absolve her of scrutiny for her predatory ways as well.

"Michelle Rhee has a heart" just because she is willing to HEAR petitions of 60 novice teachers (whatever that means) she fired especially in the throes of not having enough teachers for 2009-2010? Who writes this stuff?

When the NEXT set of "inmates" escape from New Beginnings (which they will), who will Fenty fire or severely demote this time? Did Schiraldi ever think that maybe he should LISTEN to the folks who worked in Oak Hill to get a sense of what goes on?

The letter-writer was right about the Nationals Stadium - "soulless" and designed as a food mall, not a ballpark.

Marion Barry is just like the other black thugs – 90% of their victims are other black people. For as much as Barry has “stuck it to the man”, about 90% of the time Barry is “sticking it to” someone he’s sticking it to a black person.

Until the black communities put an end to the reign of thugs, nothing will change. In Ward 8, people could start by launching a recall petition on Barry.

Ticket scalpers are blood sucking thieves. There are laws against on-site scalping, but of course in DC most laws are never enforced. Nobody wants to be bothered by these aggressive, hostile, ignorant slime bags.

The larger point is that scalping should be prohibited wherever it occurs. It's one of the main reason concert tickets are so high - musicians figured if somebody was going to get $200 for a ticket sale, it should be the band, not some blood sucking clown.

Nats Stadium is a pit. Access is horrible compared to RFK. The VA woman was right - the whole park is set up to suck your money.

So, aesthetically, the scalpers & the Lerners & Nats Park make a good fit: a bunch of blood sucking leeches. They will all be in Dante's eighth circle of Hell, if Hell exists.
