Marion Barry Arrest: The Brighthaupt Memo
Yesterday evening, in an interview with LL, Donna Watts-Brighthaupt---the woman Marion Barry is alleged to have stalked---said that the events leading to Barry's arrest began with a memo Barry had written Tuesday. That memo instructed D.C. Council secretary's office to bar her ex-husband, Delonta Brighthaupt, from a city hall event that night.
LL has obtained the memo.
"Delonte [sic] has threatened me by telephone and in person on last Sunday," the memo reads. "I am requesting that he not gain entry into the Wilson Building tonight for the screening because I feel threatened by him."
In response, Watts-Brighthaupt wrote back to Barry's scheduler, Donna Rouse. "Marion has literally lost his mind," she writes. "He has falsely accused Delonta and publicly embarrassed my daughter and me." She also refers to an incident where Barry, at the Democratic National Convention in Denver, "locked me out of his hotel room and canceled my flight." She refers also to "horrendous acts performed by Marion" witnessed by "neighbors, my family & friends and cameras in the Paris Hotel, Las Vegas."

I am requesting that he not gain entry into the Wilson Building tonight for the screening because I feel threatened by him
I will point Delonte out to you or the police if he gains entry into the building.

Ms. Donna -
Marion has literally lost his mind. My ex-husband/health caregiver has never threatened Marion. In fact the only telephone conversation made (that I am aware of) between the two was from Denver when -at my request- Delonta simply wanted to assist in my transportation back to DC from Denver's Dem Convention when Marion locked me out of his hotel room and canceled my flight last year. Hopefully one of your councilmembers will attest to Delonta's handling that situation as humane as could possibly be done given the situation.
I am saddened, thus not suprised at this unscrupulous act to control the treatments of my cancer. He has falsely accused Delonta and publicly embarrassed my daughter and me. I have several voicemails and letters from Marion stating quite the opposite where he has threatened Delonta. My neighbors, my family & friends and cameras in the Paris Hotel, Las Vegas have witnessed and have video of horrendous acts performed by Marion.
Thank you for this memo. Though much may not come of this, he is strongly advised to seek proper council.

Geez, what is this the TMZ, People Mag, The Enquirer?!? LL, you posted his Cell#, not cool! In terms of Ms. Watts --- she saved the voicemails and letters. Talk about vindictive and someone ready to litigate if necessary. That right there proves that she wanted to make a case out of this if stuff went awry...which it did. I'm sure if Barry knew she was keeping the voicemails and notes, he'd have drop her like a hot potato.

Mayor Barry is no better or worse than Jack Evans. I like the Mayor; he's a good guy. This woman attacking him has some problems, plus we have a deranged US Attorney office with a lust to put him behind bars.
The charge will never stick. She's denying it. Also, reports say that he was in front of her when the police got involved. How can you stalk someone from the front? Anyway, the stalking statute has a lot of problems, & y'all will never get Mayor Barry on this one.
Leave the old man alone. Let him serve out his remaining years with dignity & as much fun as he can handle.

There is no evidence of stalking. How could Marion cancel this woman's flight? Silly, ridiculous charges - case dismissed.
She could've got a civil TRO - 24/7 the court is open. All she had to do was walk in & get one; there is no opposition allowed. Bizarre, bizarre behavior, but, that's Marion's life.

Angry Al, the Court is NOT open 24/7 for restraining orders. In fact, a victim can't get protection unless she arrives at the courthouse (or Greater Southeast, to get the order via video conferencing) by 4 pm on M-F. There is a small, virtually-meaningless exception, in that it is possible after-hours to obtain a 24-hour restraining order at two police stations (6D and 7D, I think). It's a meaningless exception, though, because no one -- I'm talking about the police, 911, and the court, leave aside the public -- knows it's available. I know it exists, and still couldn't find information about it on the internet or by calling 911, etc.

Donna needs to stop this madness after she had told everyone how her ex husband has beat her over and over again...now she wants to make him sound like a saint. PLEASE. Marion met a young woman gave her gifts, trips, etc. in exchange for ehat she provided him.

Hey ANYBODY BUT FENTY, elsewhere on this blog you were commenting in defense of the woman, saying she got her "consulting contracts" on her own connections.
Now, you're saying she was on the take from Barry in exchange for certain, um, favors. And now we have the Washington Post reporting that the woman was given a "consulting contract" directly by Barry (oh, in addition to an $800 jacket when he didn't seem to be able to pay up on the taxes).
When are you going to realize it is Barry who has to "stop this madness"?

I can't beleive this crap! It appears to me that Donna's ex-husband is no good for her or thier children. Didn't she have a restraining order against him for physically abusing her in the past? DBrighthaught is no saint! How did he get access to the tapes? He later turns them over to the media? I truly beleive Donna is unstable, insecure and has a low self-esteem and needs to seek some professional help. How can you still be involved with your ex-husband after he released these tapes to the media causing her family shame unless she agreed to it and was consipiring against MB for personal gain? I feel sorry for her 16-year old daughter. Neither Donna or her ex-husband thought about the impact it would have on their family. It appears as if this was a lovers quarrel who's business should've have been kept private. How could she be on a trip heading to the beach with the Mayor one moment and on the same evening attend a fireworks display with her ex-husband? If you listen to her interviews you get the feeling that she craved the attention. Sounds like an unstable golddigger to me. MB sounds as if he was in love with this woman and trying to help her as well as her family. Shame on you Donna, this is how you repay him! God doesn't like ugly.
