Jeanice McMillan. How do we know the driver didnt do this on purpose and it backfired tragically on her? She left the US Postal Service in 2004, then got a job with Metro in 2007. Anybody ask why. I will tell you why. She was fired from USPS in 2004 for faking an injury and collecting workers comp, milking the government for thousands of dollars. Served jail time and had to pay the money back. Call the Inspector General of USPS if you want proof. She probably did this as another workers comp scheme.

Correction: Challenger exploded in 1986,

Not to mix human tragedy with Fiscal ones, I'm more than surprised that Natwar Gandhi is being interviewed on the Recession in DC. If there is anyone who could've safeguarded some of the fiscal downturn, it is him and his staff. Brokaw interviewing Rhee shows me that USA Network is scraping the barrel for "compelling" news stories these days. No Superintendant of schools from Floretta Dukes McKenzie (the earliest one I remember) has received this much press and attention for far less success as Rhee. It boggles the mind.

LL, the examiner link for Graham's Taxi Driver reduction is broken. Not only that, but similar to what themail said, how is it that the government can determine how many people can work in a certain profession through licensure, etc. How about they first start by limiting how much staff they carry.

A faulty Wee-Z Bond, intermittent Central Control Monitoring, Auto-pilot trains, and a Rail Operator who hit the emergency brakes, still couldn't prevent this accident. While deconstructing the accident is fascinating to some, nothing from the evidence reported indicates that this couldn't happen again. To blame a Wee-Z bond in itself doesn't change the fact that a human or humans need to also take responsibility and monitor things. Anything man-made is destined to fail, but we rely too much on technology and don't design systems that are redundant and don't anticipate enough failure. All of this Wee-Z talk reminds me of the "faulty" O-Ring seals that caused the Space Shuttle Challenger to explode back in 1983, killing her crew.

Not that this is a question for trial lawyers, but Metro, what happens when the switching mechanisms, brakes, or other essential components fail? Is there a backup system? Or do you rely solely on human intervention?
