The Breakdown From The Lastest AHOD: 85 Cases Tossed

Today, the D.C. Police Department announced the latest results of its All Hands On Deck effort which lasted from 6 a.m. on June 5 to 6 a.m. on June 7. For those unfamiliar with AHOD, the program just means that for a given weekend all available sworn officers are put on patrol. It's also one of Chief Cathy Lanier's big projects. This latest law enforcement ramp up netted 510 arrests. The arrests numbers are way up from the previous AHOD's 377 arrests.

But D.C. Police did not provide a breakdown of those arrests. They've just offered the bulk number.

Thankfully, the U.S. Attorney's Office just provided City Desk with a breakdown of cases filed---or not filed---during the June 5-June 7 time period. This does not include the various minor charges that would have been filed with the Office of Attorney General.

The numbers are up to your interpretation. Was this a good AHOD or a bad AHOD?

According to the U.S. Attorney's Office:

For June 5, there were eight felony cases, 36 misdemeanor cases, and four fugitive cases. Twenty-three cases were no papered meaning prosecutors declined to go forward with those cases.

For June 6, there were 13 felony cases, 54 misdemeanor cases, six fugitive cases and 32 cases that were no papered.

For June 8, there were 23 felony cases, 56 misdemeanor cases, six fugitive cases, and 30 cases that were no papered.

So this means that there were 85 citizens who got arrested, sat in a lockup or at the D.C. Jail, and waited through arraignment court on charges that were eventually thrown out.

Hmmm, 44 Felony arrests, 146 misdemeanor arrests, 16 fugitive arrests, and 85 thrown out. Would like to see the breakdown of the misdemeanors but even with the felonies and fugitive arrests combined, that still doesn't equal the cases thrown out. For the manpower and cost, it is almost a wasted effort.

Typical DC Government politics padding the numbers and providing citizens with the portion of information they choose. Great work WCP. Keep flushing these frauds out… Fenty & Team must go…..

85 out of 337 is 22.5%. If I had to throw out 22.5% of my work, I would lose my job. Why is this something Lanier is proud of?

I throw out over 98% of my work.

Darrow, the difference between your work and Lanier's is that your work is prone to acts of nature, poor lighting, uncooperative subjects, equipment malfunctions, ...wait, maybe that's why they had to throw arrests out, LOL. Seriously though, as I said before and DC Res and Robert Gandy have said, AHOD is a farce and barely something to be proud of. My biggest gripe about AHOD is that THEY ANNOUNCE WHEN THEY ARE GOING TO DO IT!

Granted in the grand scheme of policing, one criminal off the street makes the city a safer place. AHOD did achieve that. However, falsely arresting a person undermines any success, credibility, or integrity of your policing.

Jason and the report said 510 arrests. I know I've been out of school for a while but, 8 + 36 + 4 + 23 + 13 + 54 + 6 + 32 + 23 + 56 + 6 + 30 equals 291. So you are telling me that there were 219 "various minor charges that would have been filed with the Office of Attorney General." What were these charges if they were not misdemeanors...traffic citations, loitering, littering?

As many of the DC residents already know the AHOD initiative is a joke. The leadership of the MPD is more interested in "Fad Policing" than doing any real work. Sure the MPD comes up with cute names for things but in the end all you have is the old crap. I am sure this is no surprise to all the citizens of DC....the MPD is a broken agency that functions at a C- level at best. I don't want or need a police chief (more often A/C) who cries with the crime victims and shows up at crime scenes only to bungle the situation. A Mayor who fancies himself some later day savior who only does things for show and not for real. As Chief or A/C your job is to run the Department not run it into the ground. And as a Mayor your job is to run the city not stick your fingers in the MPD like it is your play thing. If you look at the people in charge of the MPD and the city you will find some serious issues. When you consider the MPD and many of its common practices you will find the the Department and its leadership supply surrounding jurisdictions and other major police department with quite a lot to laugh at.
