WaPo Names Dvorak New Metro Columnist
No, not the great Romantic-era composer Antonin!
Petula Dvorak, the longtime Metro reporter.
After jump, see memo from local honcho Emilio Garcia-Ruiz on how Dvorak will reinvent journalism!
New Metro Columnist
I'm delighted to announce that Petula Dvorak is our new Metro columnist. Petula has a delightful writing touch, a great perspective on Washington and a strong desire to create a new voice for Washington Post Media. We are asking her to explore nothing less than a re-invention of the traditional column form: How does a general-interest columnist succeed in a niche-topic world? What new platforms are best suited to local criticism? How do you build a loyal community of readers when your topics are diverse? Petula might have the most diverse resume in the place. Who else can boast of working at both the Orange County Register and The Prague Post? She's been with us almost 10 years, arriving after covering crime (and the Balkan War) for the Times-Picayune in New Orleans

Petula Dvorak is one hellova reporter. Is WaPo filling her old Metro slot with a beat reporter, or leaving even more of a local reporting vacuum?

Actually, if anyone *can* reinvent the local column, it's Dvorak. She's insightful and indefatigable.
