So Maybe the Redskins Drafted Cody Glenn So He Could Sell Tickets?
Vinny Cerrato got creative with his team's fifth-round pick. Uh oh!
The Redskins' GM-with-a-longer-title-and-less-power-than-a-typical-GM selected Cody Glenn, a converted linebacker whose Nebraska career was most notable for injuries and the way it ended: by getting kicked off the team last year for an undisclosed off-field incident.
As Lawrence Phillips or any honest Husker fan can tell you, if you can play some ball, it's tough to get suspended in Lincoln for anything short of a war crime.
Cerrato said Glenn was investigated thoroughly before the draft. But that claim looked shaky when Glenn told reporters his troubles came when he was caught illegally selling football tickets. That story quickly fell apart, however, and Glenn admitted the suspension wasn't for selling tickets, and apologized for lying.
He did not, however, 'fess up to whatever it is that got him booted. The rumors have been flying ever since.
And they're ugly.
So when the Redskins open their mini-camp this weekend, Glenn's going to realize that until he comes clean, this thing ain't going to go away. If he shows up at all, that is.
I want to know.
I actually hope it turns out that Glenn REALLY WAS thoroughly investigated by Cerrato, that he REALLY DID get in trouble for selling tickets, and that his ticket selling abilities were what attracted Cerrato to Glenn in the first place.
That way, using a fifth-rounder on Glenn would make more sense. From what I read, Cerrato's boss needs somebody who can sell tickets more than he does an inexperienced linebacker.

First of all, as a Nebraska native, I understand when people in the media continue to bash the Nebraska football program in the name of Lawrence Phillips. I understand their ignorance when speaking about a player from 15 years ago (and three head coaches) when relating to a story from this year's draft class. If you really want to make comments about "war crimes" being what it takes to get suspended, go ahead. You are illuminating your lack of knowledge of the sport of college football, especially at Nebraska. If you were a real journalist worth your pay, you would do some research about the situation. I would guess that you don't even know any details about the Lawrence Phillips situation that occurred 15 years ago. Just continue to show your ignorance, Mr. McKenna, I'm not surprised at all. Do some homework, and you will find out what Cody Glenn did to get removed from the team. Better off, why don't you just man up and call some coaches at Nebraska? Maybe you could even call the Athletic Director, Tom Osborne and ask him about Lawrence Phillips? You might learn something. I guess its easy to be the guy hiding behind a web address.
