No More Breaks for Big-Biz Parking Scofflaws
So says Ward 1 Councilmember Jim Graham in a press release this morning.
In an oversight hearing last month, Department of Motor Vehicles Director Lucinda Babers revealed that its been a longstanding policy (15 years!) to reduce by half tickets accrued by big fleet operators in the city—folks like FedEx and UPS who regularly foul up downtown traffic by stopping in travel lanes.
Well, no more, Graham reports.
The change could mean as much as $120,000 yearly in extra revenue, Graham claims.

Hey, I know where we can find another $2.1 million per year....that's the subsidy the Grahamstander's parking garage at D.C. USA is getting...

Does this mean that people with a CITY COUNCIL placard on their dashboard will no longer be able to park illegally? Somehow I doubt it.
Ticketing delivery vehicles is the stupidest idea ever. Do we actually want services in this city? Apparently not.

I applaud the move -- it should never have been going on for 15 years. Let them abide by the rules, especially during rush hour when traffic is horrendous without their taking up multiple lanes.

No, they are PARKING illegally, not necessarily blocking traffic. It's not that bad a rule. I actually thought they might be exempt from tickets altogether. I say, let this one rest.
