Finally, I think this case is so old that Lanier wants to help her popularity and in the process close this and other cold cases to look like she is actually doing something at her job.

Even the Washington Post finally conceded this in their sensationalized “cold case” series on the Chandra Levy case that ran last summer, although the reporters/editors tried to downplay it by calling Guandique “undocumented” and burying this detail deep in their coverage.

The guy was apparently an MS-13 member and a repeat violent offender who had a violent streak against women. Another thing that strikes me is that the beginning of May is often a time of heavy drinking, drugging, and partying among MS-13 / 18th St thugs north and south of La Frontera because of May Day, Cinco de Mayo, etc.

Of course the political conspiracy nuts have been hijacking this case from the beginning by fixating on Condit. I hope one of these hacks doesn’t end up on the jury.

Now if only the media would step up coverage on the dozens of other cold cases that continue to haunt the D.C. metro area. Try starting with Joyce Chiang (1970-1999).

I don’t know whether Guandique is guilty or not but they better have a good case if they’re going to push a conviction based on circumstantial evidence and jailhouse snitch testimony.
