Single Beers Out; 3-Packs In

A new ban on single beer sales took effect in many parts of the District yesterday. I'm super sour-grapes about it, because sometimes you just want one, and now, if you are in that situation, you are forced to buy an immoderate quantity. Nothing's worse than being forced to consume six beers when you just want a single beer.

One of the corner stores near my east Capitol Hill apartment is seeking out a middle ground. Behold, the 3-pack:

I hope Schneiders on Cap Hill can figure out a way to get their single Belgian and other craft brews back for sale. I was really bummed to be in there on Saturday buying a few and find out it was the last day.

I'm sure they're applying for an exception. Councilman Wells' office specifically mentioned Schneiders as the kind of place they had in mind for their exception rule.

this is a ridiculous ban. i can't wait for 3 packs of 40oz Private Stock. If Schneiders gets an exemption, I think World Liquor should get one, too.

where did you find the 3pack?

The 3-pack is from the D.C. Express Market at 1500 East Capitol.

    ah, my old hood. thanks.

This isn't really news. At least not in the hood. They have been selling 3packs for at least 6 months. They don't sell that many though. The drunks in my neighborhood have just moved on to tiny bottles of non-name brand everclear. They are cheaper and more effective than the three pack.

Liz, the singles ban also covers the tiny booze bottles. Your neighborhood drunks will have to team up for the 3-pack.
