I second everything Stunned said. People should be paid a salary that covers any extra work they are asked to do - and I suspect that's already the case at the WP. In which case, those grumbling about losing extra pay are so caught up in keeping the riffraff out of their first-class cabins that they fail to see the ship heading toward the iceberg.

The Post is choking and going down, but trust me the clowns at the top are still raking in the ridiculous bucks. The Magazine which is already skimpy and stupidly underfed was directed by Wemouth to slash its budget. First thing they did was cut the XX files freelancers in 1/2. Bloggers too, of course. Good luck with all that genius cost cutting. It does not seem to be improving the product --at all.

What will they trim next? I can get through a sunday post in 20 minutes. It used to be an afternoon affair. Sadly its not going to be a viable product soon.

I cannot believe the Post paid extra for that stuff. Any work you do for your employer is part of your pay. In this day and age of employees being asked to do more and more work (often work that isn't even part of their job descriptions), it doesn't make sense financially to have paid people for that extra work. I don't get paid extra when I write for my publication's blog.

On the bright side, for the Post: At least they have a lot of fat they can trim to save money....

I never read Achenblog or his column. To me, he's got very little that is original to say. I read Marc just because he talks about local issues.

But the chats are really useful.
