Dispute Ends in Louis Gossett Jr. Pulling out of Inaugural Purple Ball
Actor Louis Gossett Jr. and the Eracism Foundation have pulled their support from the Inaugural Purple Ball. According to a release from Gossett's publicist, Gossett and Asal Masomi, the Inaugural Purple Ball Chairwoman, "have been unable to resolve their differences with respect to the Inaugural Purple Ball and hence, Mr. Gossett and the Eracism Foundation will not be involved in the event."
The United Negro College Fund will be the new recipient of the ball's proceeds, which are projected to be substantial as tickets to the event range from $500-$5,000, and the confirmed guest list has 600 attendees.
When pressed for comment about Gossett's withdrawal, Masomi said, "Let's not talk about why [Gossett] is not coming. The UNCF is wonderful, they're the new benefactors of this ball, and that's what matters."
Host committee member Patricia Arquette is also no longer attending the ball: "She couldn't get the time off," Masomi said. The revised guest list includes Bill Bellamy, David Alan Grier, Edward Norton, Sarah Silverman, and the original committee save for Gossett and Arquette.
