Secret Service: Don’t Even TRY Driving Near the Mall
Not that you didn’t already know this, but: If you’re within an area code of D.C. on the 19th or 20th, don’t even think of getting in your car. The Secret Service just released traffic warnings for inauguration, and it’s every bit as thoroughgoing as you’d expect. Traffic will be cut off from the federal core from 3 pm on Monday the 19th all the way through 7 am on Wednesday the 21st.
Here’s the gpa01-09inaugsecplans1, plus map.

With hotel reservations within the no drive area thousands of travelers and luggage for 4 or more days will face unexpected barriers to their hotels. Where is the information that tells us how to adjust? We purchased inaugural ball tickets for ourselves and 2 guests and the barriers will all but prevent us from using them. Our ladies have spent way too much for their gowns and dancing shoes - and now the message is that’s too bad. We did not spend this $ to be part of a human purge. We cannot struggle through the maze of nonworking metro escalators and elevators (escalators shut down today at McPherson Sq). This may become the most disappointing event in our 48 yrs here. I am not stupid. I understand the need for security - including the need to keep some intelligence from the public, but how does this ever expanding steel wall demonstrate the freedom our people fought and died for? Yes I am angry.
Can you imagine the volume of litigation this will generate? ? ?

I feel so bad for you and your ladies. Give me a break and get a life.
