And the Award for Worst Excuse for Bad Acting Goes To…OMG! Twilight’s Robert Pattinson!

After this post, I'm totally shutting up about Twilight. (Unless, of course, Taylor Lautner's not invited back to reprise his squeal-inducing role as Jacob Black in the sequel, which would be the biggest news ever.)

But I had to say something about Robert Pattinson's recent remark to OK! magazine about why he's not looking forward to filming the franchise's next installment, New Moon. Pattinson claimed that his lifeless-in-a-bad-way performance as hottie vampire Edward Cullen was marred because of..contact lenses.

"Wearing coloured contact lenses... It was like I constantly had sand in my eyes. I was wearing them for three months constantly and my eyes never ever accepted them! It took me 20 minutes per eye every single day and I ended up having to literally fold it into my eyeball."

And the star believes the dreaded lenses may inhibit his acting skills - because he couldn't properly portray his character's emotions due to the "two orange blobs" in his eyes.

He adds, "It was frustrating as well because normally your eyes are saying something, but if you've got two orange blobs in your face it's so annoying!

"The director (Catherine Hardwicke) would say, 'Look at her (Kristen Stewart) like you love her,' and I'd be like, 'I'm trying!'"

Oh Robert, that explains everything. Now what's the rest of the cast's excuse?

okk..that's like the worst article I ever read ! xD

  2. #2

hey shut up!!! and stop bodering rob!!! this is the worst article ever!!!

  3. #3

And the award for the worst writing goes to???
Oh wait...that's you! Try writing something accomplished and worth while and leave Rob and anything to do with Twilight alone.

  4. #4

Did you just say that you are going to shut up about Twilight after this article??

    Whoo hooo!!!! Thank you.

  5. #5

Tricia is a stalwart against the shitty movies that creep to undeserved prominence in our collective cultural conscience. You folks should be thanking her.

  6. #6

I think it should be the other way around. It was Kristen who didn't look at Rob when she was saying things like "I could never live without you." Maybe she needs contacts! The way he looked at her was totally fine.

  7. #7

And the award for Most Obviously Jealous and a Petty Bee-itch goes to... OMG, City Paper's Ms. Tricia NOBODY! Sorry you couldn't get a job at a better paper, but maybe it's because you don't recognize the difference between bad acting and bad screenplays. Maybe if you were a better writer you wouldn't have to rip on 22-year old actors to try to get a bi-line. I hope your New Years Resolution was to take a writing class.

  8. #8

Wow, an anti-Pattinson article, hope you're ready for the hate mail. I'm actually a huge twilight fan, and was COMPLETELY disappointed by Rob's acting. I guess it was those contacts all along . . . poor actors, they have such tough lives.

  9. #9

    lolz

  10. #10

Wow you little girls are so immature in your bashing of the writer. Why did you even read the article if you love Rob so much and can't stand to see him criticized? I love how you always use the "jealous" excuse because the writer of the article has no skills whatsoever and is jealous of... what? A hot actor? How do you know his writing skills are that superb?

  11. #11

Amen! i agree. o and to all of you who are freaking out because you just heard the truth, calm yourselves. all you care about is rob's looks. (by the way he doesn't wash his hair. did you know that?!) the movie was great, but rob's acting left something to be desired.

  12. #12

i agree with his bad acting! contacts or no contacts. and all of you others who are getting angry at this writer just remember you may love and be obsessed with Robert Pattinson as much as you want But i dont think he will be doing the same for you...so everyone is free to state their belief on Roberts acting. and just to let you all know no matter how "HOT" some one is does not make up for bad acting :) sorry but it's true

  13. #13

i actually like this article cuz i hate robert
i m a huge fan of the book ..... but the movies they ruined it............
nd taylor on the other hand is sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo hooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooootttttttttttttttttttttttt
    lol

  14. #14

All you little scene twi fans need to stop "setting yourself up for dissapointment" by being completely enthralled with Edward Cullen. 1. He is not real and NEVER will be. 2. Rob Pattinson did have huge shoes to fill but he still failed miserably, whether or not due to contact lenses. and finally 3. If he is not any better in the second film then he has no excuses.

Please just remember that this is fiction and that though he is british and "hot" doesnt give him any leway in the acting business! Except for the cheezy lines, that is bad writing and not his fault entirely.

  15. #15

although i'm sure he will do better in the next movie :)

  16. #16

Hmm, I think you have Rob mixed up with Keanu Reeves. Talk about bad acting!!

  17. #17

ok, Well I just can't seem to get what everyone's going crazy for. apparently my gf only thinks this guy is hot when he's in character and thinks he's a hairy oily face normal joe when he isn't playing Edward. His acting in this movie pretty bad, but to be honest this movie didn't require any acting skills.

Twilight is tailored for these teeny booper overly-emotional girls. This movie was a Roller Coaster Ride of Emotions that I can NEVER do again. Simply put its the Notebook (minus the substance) with Vampires.

  18. #18

Wow. Maybe some of you should check your spelling and grammar before criticizing my writing.

  19. #19

Oh..how my tolerance for all things Twilight dwindles. I have noticed that with the twilight interviews..portions of interviews are taken and kindof misused to make a different story. I saw that full interview on Youtube and I don't think he was making excuses. If I recall correctly he was just rambling about eye contact...and that came out in mid ramble.

I was dragged to see this movie. Honestly... Rob, Billy Burke and Peter F did the best with the sh!t material they were given.
Peroxide Reed is pathetic... on and off screen and as for Kristen. *BARF* She's got 2 things she can lay out in a character(cause it's the only things she has in her arse-enal). 1) Panic. 2) Hostility. I'd like to see someone seriously punch her - just to see if she knows another emotion. There's a few things little Miss 18 year old needs to learn. EARN respect, BE thankful and gracious, and LISTEN - she may think she knows everything...but that just shows you how much she doesn't. Nice role model she thinks she is...FYI..strength and empowerment doesn't come from being aggressive and cavalier.

And Twilosers who constantly "hook-up" cast members...seriously...have you slept with nerd in the next cubicle from you yet? Oh wait.. get a job first.
    */rant* ;)

A MI PARTICULARMENTE, ME GUSTO MAS LA ACTUACION DE ROB P.MAS QUE LA DE KRISTEN STEWART.
ADEMAS,, QUE ESPERABAN TODOS? UNA ACTUACION DIGNA DE UN OSCAR?
    YO QUEDE BASTANTE CONFORME :)

  21. #21

The movie was a lame piece of crap and this Rob guy is an oily mess. He sounds really smart blaming his bad acting skills on contacts.

For all you haters posting above - did you see the movie? Horrible. Tricias pointing out what your too blind to see. Go back to your One Tree Hill and 90210

  22. #22

I LOVE TRICIA + I LOVE ROB, U DNT HAVE 2 CHOOSE LADIES

  23. #23

    completely disagree with this article,
    Twilight is AMAZING!!!!!!!
    this article, not so much.

  24. #24

LOL LOL- this is the best, im laughing, very refreshing, yeah i think the real person to blame aint the actors, the screenplay is all messed up, the director is lame and the budget is tight, for instance Carlise Cullen (peter F) terrific actor! but non of his acting skills really showed. I think Mrs Meyer should step up and have a say going forth!

i read the book-i read ALL the books and believe me- id advise everyone to rather READ the book. besides we wont see much of rob in new moon only in the first and last segments. so i suppose we should prepare ourselves for kirsten S being linked to the dude who will be playing jacob then. people get real hate rob, love rob, but remember some of the actors dont ask for fame, we create the hype around them, we determine wether an actors career will be a success!
now sheath ur claws, its only another movie, rob is only another actor and well we aint actors now are we?

  25. #25

lol. actually when rob said that, i don't think he meant it as an excuse for his bad acting.

he probably just say it.. for the fun of it. (:

  26. #26

will all u guys shut up....dam f***** haters. I think robert did fine actually he did really good. Im proud of you. You did good after finding out that the contact lenses were bothering you. The article sucked itself but there is a lot of teenagers that want to know everything about him so let the people do there job. i liked it that only makes me admire him more. You did verrrrry good.

  27. #27

Are you kidding me? Robert Pattinson's performance was absolutely flawless! If you took the time to read the books, including the manuscript available on the web which Stephenie wrote from Edward's perspective; you'd discover that Rob actually embodied Edward with perfection. In the interview mentioned above, he's merely saying that the contacts are painful -- something many people would agree with. He's not whining or making excuses -- he's been interviewed about every tiny detail of his life over the last couple of months. He's merely saying that the contacts hurt and make showing emotions a bit difficult. Regardless, he gave the performance of a lifetimek, if one actually understands what he was portraying. You have to understand Edward's motivation and struggle to understand his hesitation, his being torn between staying with Bella or leaving Bella, and the deep passion he feels for Bella. It's a shame that you even wrote this assessment of his performance in a public forum. You clearly don't know what you're talking about.

  28. #28

Just another third rate hack who cant get a job on a better paper trying to get hits by name dropping Pattinson. Whats your salary again Tricia?

  29. Too Old to be a fan
    #29

I read the books. All of them. Including Stephenie's manuscript from Edward's point of view. When my 15 years old daughter asked me to join her to watch Twilight I freaked out! I was already hating Robert Pattinson for DARING to try to be at least close to an attempt image of Edward Cullen.
Trust me...playing Edward Cullen is kind of trying to impersonate perfection itself. Almost impossible.
I went to the movies ready to kill. I hated the film with all my heart (and guts). It's bad. it's poor. it's...blah! sue me!
But if there's ONE thing there that respects the books is Robert Pattinson's Edward. He simply IS Edward Cullen. Too young maybe. Reading, I forgot he looked 17 y.o. I wanted a 25ish Edward. But he's absolutely perfect.
You should read the books. You'd see that even his smile has been written buy Stephenie Meyer...it's full of Edward.

    I'm 47. I don't think he's hot. I just think he's done a great job.

  30. #30

Pre and adolescent girls and peri-menopausal women are the only ones who don't seem to know that Rob is gay. Big deal, right? No, but I wish he would just come come out - he's never going to be able to keep it on the downlow with this sort of hype-o-rama. I think he's handsome, can't really say anything about his acting skills, but if Twilight is a good representation his fall back career as a rentboy will be RED HOT!

  31. #31

LOL!! Well.. I'm 27 and I don't think he's gay. At ALL. I think he's a shy, sexual guy interested in WOMEN. What I find funny is when good looking guys hit it big time fast, he's assumed to be gay or closet about it. (Wasn't Brad Pitt supposed to be gay too?) Seriously, that narrow minded mentality needs to stop. It's like saying people who "out" random straight people online are closet gays with self esteem issues due to mass rejection. Tough break for you.

Rob can call me when he comes to Canada.... ;) Anytime.

  32. #32

I'm not outing random guys - and believe me, many people know Rob is gay and document it on various blogs and websites. A lot of actors are gay - it's not wrong to assume that there are more than enough known gay actors. Closeting yourself is either self hate or self preservation, maybe both.

  33. #33

Well, there was some bad acting, sure, but I didn't think Rob was one of the bad actors. (and that's not just b/c I'm a self-professed 25 year old married twi-hard) but let's be honest.. did i go see the movie 4 times b/c of the acting? no way.. it's robert pattinson's beautifulness that keeps me coming back!
    http://letterstorob.com

  34. #34

Oh, please, anyone with decent gaydar can tell robert pattinson is straight as they get. No self respecting gay would walk out in public with those bushy eyebrows or clothes that belong on a fat woman with low self esteem! The boy is goregous and pretty, yes. But he's not toned or manscaped or clean enough to be gay.

  35. #35

who are these nazis on here obsessed with this guy? yuck. And who cares what Tricias salary is- shes has a job at an alt weekly in the capitol of the US. Go f**k yourself Jen

  36. #36

Hey Tricia, how does it feel knowing that Robert Pattison is richer and gayer than you'll ever be?

  37. #37

I didn't really think Roberts performance was bad, I liked his use of his eyes they did provide enormous amounts of emotion for him. Kristen on the other hand should continue acting lessons. I couldn't understand why she couldn't get her words out and why they let her continue like that. Of course then I saw a interview with her thats how she really talks. Not much acting in that. Frankly, I think all the hype has been way to much of a strain on both actors and both should be replaced. Not because I don't like Robert I do very much. He just can't handle the attention very well. And Kristen well she looks the part but can't talk, and turns to smoking a pipe as soon as she gets to much press. Or was it just that difficult to work with Katherine for both of them. I think the nearly the whole movie could have been filmed in the cafeteria, without the monkey tree climbing stuff. I know she just wanted to show the beauty of the area. I could have done without all of it because she failed to produce the meadow that I for one had been anticipating and it ruined the movie altogether.

  38. #38

you try wearing contacts that hurt way bad. your in so much pain you can hardley keep your eyes open, it feels like you have a piece of hair in your eye. plus he had to act really good because like millions of people saw the movie so he was probally really stressed. so probally dont even wear contacts so you dont know what its like so shut up!!

  39. #39

кто бы мог подумать=) так держать!

Эх, взять бы автомат, да разрядить обстановку!!!!=)

  45. #45

Thank you, Tricia Olszewski. Thank you. I have hope for humanity yet. What is Robert Pattinson, anyway? A guy who walks around, apparently too "cool" to laugh at himself, with a head that's more greasy than a piece of pizza that drips is all that I can see in his accomplishments. Is hygiene not important, anymore? I don't care if he was "in pain" from those contacts lessons. If you're being paid millions of dollars to portray an emotion, then you better freakin' portray it. I couldn't care less if you had a leprechaun trying to eat your foot at the time. Do your job.

And no, I'm not a Twilight fan. I can't take a VAMPIRE LOVE STORY seriously. I'm as close-minded as the Robert Pattinson fans on this subject.

  46. #46

Or, errrr, lenses. Not lessons. Ooops. In ranting about stupidity, I sometimes neglect grammar.

  47. #47

OK...shouldn't a journalist do a little research before writing an article? Robert Pattinson was asked a question during an interview about what were the best and worst things about filming twilight. ONE, not the only thing, was that his eyes are very sensitive and the contacts bothered him and he also said that the harness for the wire stunts were difficult and painful as well. I'm not bashing this writer at all because everyone is entitled to an opinion. I am not a teenager, I am a grown woman in her thirties and I do feel that with Rob's sudden fame there will be critics who want to tear him down. I do believe we have something special to look forward to with this young actor. He is 23 and already seems intensely dedicated to his craft. So with a little marturity and experience, our boy will go on to win oscars, trust.

  48. #48

Intensely dedicated? He goes to parties all the time, and focuses much of his existence on his stalkeresque fixation with his drug-loving co-star. Well, I guess it could SEEM that he's dedicated. I don't buy it. I don't know, I look at the greats. Anthony Hopkins. Charlie Chaplin. Katherine Hepburn. Bette Davis. Dick Van Dyke, who could do stinkin' anything, by the way. Many others that I won't take the time to name. I shouldn't even have to mention all the brilliant Vaudeville performers who performed with everything they had, just to eat that night. I guess that's considered mentioning, though. How can someone like Robert Pattinson, who is simply a supposed teenage heart-throb, be compared to these fantastic and revolutionary actors? I can't accept that. I have an obligation to great cinema not to accept that. I don't want to tear him down. It's just wrong to wish for anyone to fail. It's just...I wish that, instead of blowing money on stupid things (like parties), he would be more wise and helpful with the cash he's being blessed with. Buy a kid a freakin' lolli-pop or somethin', ya know? It seems like that's step one to ultimate failation. Yes, I did just create that word. And I wish our generation could be acquainted to the before mentioned elites of great pictures.

I still can't take a vampire love story seriously. Robert's not "my boy." I'd consider Mickey Rooney to fill that position better. He's a kid at heart, and he worked hard in his glory years.

Robert can complain all he wants. It doesn't phase my emotions. The guy who played the Tin Man in The Wizard of Oz had to sleep standing up. The Lion had an incredibly large amount of weight in that suit. Judy Garland had to be in a painful harness to make her look younger, and they all had to deal with the basic pains of acting in that time, which was most likely a million times harder than today's acting world. I did say most likely, as I'm not completely sure.

    #49

Ok 4 all of u who say that Rob has bad aktinf skills, have you seen him in his other movies?
he is awsome! And to my point of view,he did an awsome job in Twilight. and he DOES shower, soemone even said his shampoo was soo strong that he smelled like Liliac. AND you Tricia Bithweski, if you hate Twilight and Rob and all of it why do you keep writing about it? Why don't you go tras your MOM instead of writing this shit of work you call articles!!!!
Thats why you can't get a good job in a good paper, they know what's tallent and it certainly is not this BULLSHIT you write!

  50. #50

There had been arguments about Robert Patttinson being ugly or not, dude look at that hair, does he cut it himself? he goes to events on a nice sunny day looking like theres been a hurricane on his house, or rather the oil in his hair builds up and through months or even years of not washing it making it hard and rough, seriously from what i've seen, faces of people alters when they grow older, he might look nice in Harry Potter and maybe 'hot', but that was a century ago, in Twilight his nice image doesn't appeal to me anymore, in fact he's not a sensible and intelligent person and even in a way rude, he doesn't respect his fans and from the pictures i've seen, he looks like a "i'm too good for this" guy, so i suppose he's cocky too. even the film crew in "remember me" doesn't like his attitude. Honestly if he keeps this "self-centered" attitude, Twilight movies wouldn't far from the end of his career, Acting with looks and acting with skills are two different topics. I mean : Teen's Choice awards, maybe, but Oscars?, not a chance.
