WMATA: Man Hit By Red Line Train

A red-line train hit a man this morning. The man was struck at the Shady Grove station, according to WMATA. The man was alive when paramedics arrived on the scene. Metro people report:

"The train was headed to Glenmont when it hit the man at around 9:50 a.m. About 20 minutes later, rescue crews removed the man, who was alive, from underneath the train and transported him to a local hospital.

There is limited service at Shady Grove, Rockville and Twinbrook Metrorail stations. A train is operating on one track between the stations and Metro has set up a shuttle bus service. Buses also are transporting passengers to the Shady Grove, Rockville and Twinbrook Metrorail stations."

Expect more delays this morning as Metro investigates.

Update 12:35 p.m.: WTOP is reporting that the man has died from his injuries: "The 50-year-old man had to be pulled out from under the Red Line train. He was taken to a local hospital and died a short time later."
