Senators Oppose Extended Bar Hours For Inauguration
Remember how last week the D.C. Council voted to extend bar hours for Obama's Inauguration week? Well, the extended booze time, according to the Post, has hit a snag: two senators. Armed with a letter to District officials, Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif) and Sen. Robert F. Bennett (R-Utah) have gotten all angsty, citing the strain on law enforcement.
We already had a reason start to hating on Utah.
The Post quotes from the Senators' letter:
"The plan . . . could seriously strain law enforcement resources that need to be focused on the large crowds and security requirements of the Inaugural," the senators wrote. "There is great cause for celebration at this historic event. But we believe that the benefits of this emergency legislation, passed with little public notice, are far outweighed by its possible consequences."
We already have plenty of NIMBYs snickering over the voluntary-agreement issue. Now this. Another reminder that we aren't a state.

To me, it would almost seem like more work for the police to try to enforce mandatory (normal) closures on inauguration weekend. I'm not saying it's necessarily a good thing to have people out drinking at 5am in the morning -- just that the whole city is going to so crazy that it's probably easier to let people do it rather than actively trying to stop them.

I am neitherr pro or con or the bar hours issue but I am 100% opposed of someone from California and someone from Utah telling my home which is on an entirely different coast what they should and should not do.

DC does not deserve a vote. The Black People earned the right to vote in Mississippi. They marched & were beaten, bit by dogs, pounded by police with clubs, pummeled with water from high-pressure fire hoses, arrested, convicted, served time in prison, & they were shot, bombed, & disappeared. What has DC done to earn the right to vote? Nothing – just a stupid, poorly worded slogan.
