Stella at 6th & I Historic Synagogue, Todd Barry at DC Improv

In tomorrow's schedule, wedged between "Doing the Right Thing: Jewish Ethics in the Modern World" and "News Media Malpractice: Mis-Covering the Middle East," is a 7 p.m. performance by Stella (Michael Ian Black, Michael Showalter, and David Wain), the absurdist supergroup responsible for Wet Hot American Summer, The Baxter, and the short-lived and eponymous Comedy Central series, Stella.

I've got a real soft spot/hard on for David Wain in particular, as he voices the warden on Adult Swim's underrated Superjail. Some clips below (the first is Stella as a group, the second is Wain in Superjail.)

And now, Superjail:

Another good comedy show this week is Todd Barry (the bongo player from The Flight of the Conchords), who performs Thu., 12/4, at the DC Improv. Barry delivers his lines at a snail's pace and without ever raising his voice, and magically manages to keep you on the edge of your seat:

Let me guess, you weren't born yet when "The State" was on MTV.

  2. #2

I was 8 years old when The State debuted. The next year my parents got rid of our television, and I didn't watch it regularly again until my freshman year at college. Imagine my sorrow that re-runs of Thunderbirds had gone off the air.

    Hippies ruin everything.

  4. #4

    Damn straight.

  5. #5

Riggs, I'm gonna say right now that this is probably the only time you and I will ever agree.

  6. #6

    That breaks my heart, Joe.

Whether you're being totally facetious or sensitively honest, you obviously have no sense of how to nurture a nemesis, if only for dramatic reasons. It's that yin-yang shit, yo.

  8. #8

Except, y'know, after awhile I'll want a cut of your paycheck. A good nemesis is costly after awhile.

In that case, I'll stick with Ernest. He acts like an asshat for free.

  10. #10

You're calling me an asshat, aren't you?

  11. #11

I never comment, but... How could you POSSIBLY leave out The State for "Stella"?!?!!???

Also, show is at 8, doors at 7.

Sorry, Lin, too young for The State. Now that you and Joe/PC have made me feel like a cultural indigent, though, I'll add it to my Netflix list.

And Joe, you're the one who started talking about my yang.

  13. #13

Obligatory childish response: Your yang is my asshat.

  14. #14

That doesn't make any sense. Apologies.

  15. #15

    I love you Michael Showalter!

    The show was great, fyi!

Try iTunes for The State... The State is still not on dvd. :)
