Historically, municipal recreation departments have been cesspools of patronage ever since wardheelers took them away from the civic-minded debutantes who established them around 1890-1900. Our legislators have a firm sense of tradition.

The Volokh Conspiracy is right, he doesn't know DC politics. There is enough support on the Council for this, even among CMs that would be subject to this mythical "Black Voter Backlash" to gay marriage (like Ward 8 is going to throw out Marion Barry over this? Are you kidding me?)

And furthermore, there is no effing way that Congress would overrule gay marriage in DC. They would need both houses to affirmatively vote to overrule the bill. How easy is it to kill a bill in the House? Does anyone really think that Speaker Pelosi, of San Fran-F*cking-Cisco, would allow a bill like that to move beyond step one?

This has nothing to do with protecting Blue Dogs, they don't have to do anything. The vote never has to even happen. And even if it did, all they have to do is vote present and it's dead.

Hmmm...while I can agree that we don't want to overburden Allen Lew, our parks in this city are in horrible shape and need to be overseen by someone who can do the job right. Sadly that is not DPR.
