Watch: Petworth Residents React To Shootings

Last night, we interviewed a number of Petworth residents about this past weekend's series of shootings. We've been covering it a lot. So we thought we should take the video camera out and talk to real people. We hit 8th and Crittenden and interviewed two residents who provided some interesting details surrounding the shootings:

The on guy says "I never carry money when I walk my dog."

Why do people avoid carrying money when they go out? A potential mugger doesn't know whether or not you have money. If you're going to be mugged, you will still be mugged even if you have no cash.

Scenario A: mugger hits you and says "give me all your money." You say "I don't have any." Mugger doesn't believe you, gets pissed off, pistol whips or beats you up to find out for himself.

Scenario B: You give the mugger 50 bucks, he takes the money and runs, and you are 50 bucks poorer and one trip to the hospital richer.

Considering how rarely any individual gets mugged, and how muggings can turn violent when they don't get what they want, it seems really stupid to NOT have something to give up. A few bucks lost on the rare occasion when you get mugged is nothing.

I wonder if these guys care/dare to go to certain neighborhoods in SE or NE where shootings are way more common and talk to their residents , seriously doubt it.
