Reid is "someone surprised at how well Christine Culver did."

What make you think it was pro-Culver vote instead of an anti-Jack vote?

How about adding Councilman Harry Thomas to the list of losers. He worked to endorse a group of folks in Ward 5 and all of them lost, what does this say about his hold on his Ward.

I don't know if I'd call her a winner, or even a winnerish, but mark me as someone surprised at how well Christine Culver did. Particularly for somebody who entered the race pretty late, not to mention the fact that she thinks the Wilson Building is called "city hall" and probably couldn't find it on a map if asked.

Maybe Ward 2 just has more Republicans in its western boundaries, but I would think the Georgetown Republicans (a group that is always overestimated in numbers, imho) would be overwhelmed by the uniformly Democratic voters in Dupont, Logan, etc. The interesting thing will be what happens after 2010. It is likely that Ward 2 will be shrunk even further as Ward 6 and Ward 5 take over SW and Logan respectively (to accomodate the likely expansion of Wards 7 and 8 west of the river).

Too bad Mara doesn't live in Ward 2. He could probably make a solid run for that seat, particularly if Evans ever leaves (say to take Gray's seat, which would be open if he decides to run against Fenty in 2010).

Mike you should look at the votes again, he won a very shaky election. His numbers in Wards 1, 2, 3, & 6 are very low and would not hold up against a strong white or a strong black candidate who apeals to those previous wards. Also Wards 7&8 once again had a low "choose 2 ratio", so he cannot depend on them to take him to victory. In 4 years if there is another strong candidate he could be one term.
