This is really funny, Beaujon -- glad to see a discussion of the Obama/unicorn phenom. At first it seemed to be about the unlikelihood of him winning, but now it's metamorphosed into commentary about his idealistic platform. I think the unicorn thing has been generated by regular ol' liberals who are going to vote for him, but who (after the absurdity of 2000 and the smoldering, horrified disbelief of 2004) are trying to steel themselves for the possibility of him a) losing or b) (worse) winning, then finding out that Washington politics is its own mythical creature that NO ONE can actually change. We're associating him with unicorns in case the Obama vision hits the Washington wall and vanishes in a poof of smoke ... Irony is far easier than committing. Irony is comforting when faced with the bleak possibilities that we could hope, believe, vote, and still fail.

On a lighter note, I really wanted to design an Obama/Unicorn 2008 bumper sticker a while ago. At least those liberal elite unicorns probably know when TV was invented.
