Marion Barry to Endorse Michael Brown
Ward 8 Councilmember Marion Barry will endorse Michael A. Brown for an at-large council seat today, sources tell LL. The announcement is scheduled to come in a joint press conference with Harry Thomas Jr. (who told the Post his endorsement decision this morning) tentatively scheduled for 2 p.m., location TBA.
Barry's pick would be an unsurprising spurning of colleague Carol Schwartz. Here's what Schwartz had to say about Barry when the mayor-for-life came back to the council in 2005:
He and I have known each other for 35 years, but unknown to most of you, we’ve been friends for all of those many years in spite of two hard fought mayoral campaigns where he beat me badly. We’ve been there for each other during sad times and we celebrated our victories on November 2nd with lunch the day after. And it’s a first for us, to be at the same place at the same time – I went on the School Board in 1974 right after Marion left, and I went on the Council when he was Mayor.
Ward 7 Councilmember Yvette M. Alexander says she will not be making an endorsement, though LL hears that Barry and Thomas had been leaning hard on Alexander to join them as Brown backers. Says Alexander, "My focus is on Ward 7," pointing out she's made an endorsement in her ward's school board race (Cameron Poles).
"May the best man win," she says. "Or woman."

I can't remember, does LL and/or Citypaper make endorsements?
Frankly I'm petrified that Michael Brown is going to win. Just read his responses to Fisher. They basically boil down to "I have absolutely no opinion on anything. Can I haz cownsil seet now?"

Reid, I think being "petrified" is an overreaction. It's not like having people who don't know what they're doing on the council is anything new. Not that that's a good thing, but I'm saving my petrification for other worries.

LL's general election endorsements will be in Thursday's paper.

No I wasn't exaggerating. I have literally turned to stone under the pressure of Michael Brown's incompetence and nascent cronyism.
