CQ: Senate Blocks D.C. Gun Law

Congressional Quarterly is reporting that Sen. Dick Durbin (D-Ill.) and 11 Democratic colleagues have signed a letter objecting on the introduction of a D.C. gun bill on concerns "about proceeding to this bill without hearing from local and federal law enforcement officials and other interested parties."

The bill, which passed the House last week, was being pushed on the other side of the Capitol by Texas Republican Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchinson. Forty-six other senators have asked Democrats to bring the bill to the house floor, the CQ article says, but according to the Senate rules, any senator can keep a bill from being taken up.
