Bolt Bus and Megabus Hog the Street
An observant reader sends this snapshot from yesterday of Bolt Bus and Megabus taking over two lanes at 11th and G streets during rush hour. Come on, dudes! Share! (On a side note, I still haven't been able to get wi-fi on Bolt Bus.)

What really annoys me about this is that the buses take up the metro bus lane, so I'm always afraid I'm not going to be seen or they won't stop.
And all the people waiting around sit on the metro bus stop bench.
Thanks guys!

at least the moved down the block. when they were working on the sidewalk on this block, the buses actually stopped at the Metrobus stop.

Friends,
It does look like Megabus is double parked, and as for the Metro benches, all Americans own and paid for those benches. Without public (Federal) dollars, WMATA would stop in 10 seconds. Metro has had a monopoly to do as it pleases, and it is a good service for its patrons, a very good service, but it is dreaming to think that no other services can operate to serve the district's residents and visitors. Of course folks are all concerned about our own situation, and all the others should get out of the way, but there is obviously a huge need for these curbside buses and a viable solution other than wishing them away needs to occur. Most curbside patrons ARE Metro patrons who just got off the Metro, or will get on the Metro. Just my 2 cents. bill

Eastern Travel is HELL!!! The company of thugs stranded over 30 customers at Penn Station who had already waited three hours for a return trip to Washington, DC. Many had already paid. It took a sit-in by angry customers and a call to the police to get Eastern Travel to listen. They wouldn’t answer phone calls from customers, the drivers or the New York Police. This company is a scam!!! Do NOT use Eastern Travel!! Here’s footage: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6ENx7gtrL7k

You do realize jj that Bolt Bus is jointly owned by Greyhound and Peter Pan? As a result they also have the required insurance, and the non-existence of terminals allows them to drop their fares compared to their formal counterparts substantially. And they're a ton nicer than their Chinatown competition for the same price.

to jj is right, they are better for the price. There are a lot of non-Chinatown bus lines that are looking really good right now. Megabus, Bolt Bus, Vamoose, DC2NY, just to name a few. You can find tickets from those at http://www.busjunction.com
