Violent Night!

Lots of terrible stuff happened in the Trinidad neighborhood Friday night. A 13-year-old boy was killed and six others were shot, according to reports. NBC4 and WTOP are on top of the story today. Police tell NBC4 they might reinstall those controversial checkpoints because of the violence. (Never mind that the checkpoints were for some secret, specific reason.)

UPDATE: The checkpoints are back.

Chief Lanier does not have an original thought, nor does she care about the crime spree in Trinidad. She is concerned about splashing her mug all over the airways, padding her resume and “faking” her way to the top. Had she actually been a commander in this Department, she would not be stealing bad ideas from other jurisdictions. She needs to stop with the “bandaides” let the detectives actually work the case, instead of violating the civil rights of residents. And actually go to these neighborhoods without her cadre of press and command officials, get out and meet the people, find out what they want — instead of throwing solutions at the unidentified problem… in other words see the proctologist…

  2. Ward 8 Resident Says:

There are many of us who support Chief Lanier and the checkpoints. As a law abiding, employed DC redsident there is nothing worse than being held hostage in your own home because of gun shots outside and criminals who have taken over the street. I (and others) applaud Chief Lanier’s efforts at being PROACTIVE. The same for Asst Chief Groomes who is ALWAYS accessible and follows up on residents concerns. I would love them to do a Checkpoint in our area and I know the residents would welcome them!

  3. Ward 8 Resident Says:

FYI - Chief Lanier and Asst Chief Groomes have been out in our community several times without cameras and has followed up on residents concerns. Both have even knocked on the door of known drug houses to talk to the residents/drug dealers.

    They have our support.

Ward 8 resident, I doubt you speak for the entire Ward 8 community. I hated the random checkpoints that were set up in Ward 8 when I lived there. Perhaps you can ask Kenneth Baker how it helped his ANC, because I don’t recall it doing much more than slowing down my car, often when I was driving my kid and her friends around. And no, I don’t recall the number of shots I heard at night going down after that, either.

So far, I’m not impressed, at all.

  5. Don Says:

I’m not impressed by your email and your ideas either Bendygirl. Not impressed, at all.

  6. Grumpy Says:

A rock and a hard place, it seems.

So what recourse do the tax paying, law abiding citizens have? Do they remain hostages by their own armed children/neighbors/etc.?

Do they submit to ‘Marshal Law’ tactics to curb violence which they themselves permitted by not parenting their children, not choosing proper men/women to have babies with, not educating themselves and these same children who now are gun toting thugs?

Or do they just complain about their rights being violated; rights which they have given up freely by allowing their neighborhoods to be overrun by the same subjects in example 2?

After all, the thugs and crackheads are not from Mars…they are your own. Your village, your kids, your responsibility. You can blame Lanier all you want, same as you blamed Ramsey and what about Ike Fulwood? You blamed him too when Rayford and Tony and Michael Fray and them were ‘running it’.

Your crazy asses kept Marion in there so long he thought he was MAYOR FOR LIFE. While he faked ya’ll out giving kids summer jobs, his cronies made the real money…they should rename Mitchellville MARIONVILLE for all the millionaires he helped make. HR Crawford too…biggest slumlord in DC. The damn Don King of real estate in DC.

How far think complaining and blaming are going to get you?

Get off your asses and stop being punk ass parents afraid of your own damn kids. All the shit you thought was cute when they were 4 and 5 years old has caught up with you. 30 plus years of this shit and still complaining?? If you can lay blame, you can lay claim.
